very low platelet count - anyone else?

my levels are so low, if i go into labor in the next few days, i cannot get an epidural (scare of bleeding and not able to clot).  OB has me on prednisone (steriod) to try to get my levels to rise.  i'm crossing my fingers this works in time, but am very nervous!  anyone have an experience w/ this situation?

Re: very low platelet count - anyone else?

  • Mine are low, but not below 100000 which I think is the epidural magic number. I hope you can get your levels to rise!

  • I'm on an iron supplement to get mine up before labor. I won't have an epi, so that's not a big deal, but OB said that, with the amount of blood loss after birth, I would be very sick if I didn't get my count up. THey discovered my issue at 32 weeks, so I should be good.

     Hope you get them up!

  • What was your number? I  have constantly low platelets (between 75-85) so luckily my Dr. doesn't think I will have a problem since we can prove to the anesthesiologist that they are normally that way. I am not sure if that is the case or not. I was told anything under 80 puts you at risk for not recieving an epidural. I am a FTM though and don't have any actual experience! Hopefully your number goes up so you don't have to think/worry about it!
