3rd Trimester

Gross question for those whose bewbies are leaking...

I figured I'd ask this here since not many 2nd tri-ers are leaking yet. I am a freak, and my nips have been leaking since 17 weeks. I actually have to drain them at night or else they get sore and itchy. My question is- when, if at all did your colostrum go from clear/yellow to white? My left knocker is leaking super white fluid. Looks like milk. Is that even possible already?

Re: Gross question for those whose bewbies are leaking...

  • Colostrum can be a range of colors, I believe...mine's sometimes yellow, sometimes white and sometimes clear.  Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it.  It's not milk, though; it's still colostrum.

  • I don't know if it's too early, but when my milk came in on Thursday it changed from clear/yellow to white. I was 4 days pp when it came in.

This.  Colostrum can be a range of colors (as can breast milk).  Sometimes what you eat will change the color and the actual composition may change during the course of the day. . .which can also change the color.  But it is still colostrum.

Ok, thanks. I thought it was weird too that it was just the one boob that is making white. And my name is Adrienne too. =)

    I don't think the milk
    comes in until your
    hormones switch girl
    after the baby comes...
but I'm not sure. I often
    have clear or yellowy-
    white coming out. Fun!
And I don't think you are
    the epitome of tacky. :)
    Lol. Thanks!
  • From what I learned about breastfeeding so far... That shouldn't be milk. The prolactin in your body is the hormone that causes milk production. But your placenta is producing hormones that counteract the effect of prolactin (in that area at least). That's why you don't produce milk immediately after the baby is born. After the placenta is gone, the prolactin is able to start producing milk.
