Anyone's LO have wheat or milk allergies?

Hey all!

My LO, Fable, is 16 weeks old and I think she might have an allergy to her formula. She drinks Similac Sensitive right now. Here are her symptoms:

She's constantly constipated. When she was a newborn, her pedi had us try her on soy formula and Nutramagen, both of which Fay hated. Our pedi actually thinks she might be allergic to soy...

Anyway, so she's constantly constipated, as well as gassy. She cries during or after her feedings sometimes. She also arches her back a lot. She often has a raised rash/dry skin on her legs and arms.

I'm just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone, and what they did about it. I bought her some probiotics today, and I also got a free sample of dairy-based formula from Whole Foods that I might try her on if the pedi gives the okay.

If it helps, there's a possibility that I have an issue breaking down sugars, but I've never been tested for it.

Thanks!! Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

  • I am trying to figure out if Walker has a dairy intolerance...he has terrible excema and dry skin, so I have cut dairy from my diet ( I EBF), and it seems to be getting better.  Good luck!

  • DD has the milk protein allergy/intolerance so I'll tell you about our experience, which sounds different from your LO. DD had explosive, neon green, bloody diarrhea starting at 5 weeks old. Horrible smelling poop and gas and a very rumbly stomach started at 6 weeks, which is the same time that I went dairy-free since I was still EBF at the time. Her symptoms were completely gone within a month of me eliminating dairy from my diet. This is often also characterized by fussy behavior and signs of pain when eating, but we never saw this with DD. Eczema can also go along with it, but we didn't have that either. I've never heard constipation as a symptom. When my supply started tanking, we were able to rule out a soy allergy by having me drink soy milk and it didn't bother her, so she now is supplemented with Similac Isomil (soy). The formula does constipate her and this seems to be common with soy, but since she is older, we are able to keep that in check with prunes, peaches and the occasional juice. HTH!
