3rd Trimester

when is too late for a shower?

So I've been out of the area and we didn't know when I would be near family.  Happily it was sooner than we thought it would be, but in the process of planning the shower, but want to give everyone time to plan ahead.  I'm due mid-April and nervous of planning too far into March.  When will I be way too uncomfortable?  When would be a good time?

Re: when is too late for a shower?

  • I'm due in early April and am having my showers the last two weekends of February. I think if people can manage to pull something together by the first or second weekend of March (still a month away), you'll probably be okay. If you keep your guest list small and have a really simple event (inexpensive location, appetizers rather than a meal, etc.), the planning should be manageable in that timeframe for hosts and guests alike.

  • I think most people have them between 32 and 35 weeks. I'll be almost 37 weeks at my shower.
  • i just had my first shower yesterday - at 36 weeks 3 days and my last shower is wednesday and i'll be 37 weeks
  • I am due April 10th but will have my shower Feb. 29th. That means I will be 34 weeks. I personally wouldn't go past 36 weeks for your shower.

  • I'm having mine at 35 weeks and wouldn't want it any later- we need time to get everything set up and go buy everything we still need after that!

  • I had mine at 36 weeks and it was just fine.

  • I had my shower around 30 weeks, might have been 28.5. No one can tell you when you'll be too uncomfortable because everyone is different. And I'm sure you're not gonna have to do to much physical stuff (other then opening gifts) at your shower... If someone wants to throw you one, go for it!
  • I think we are due the same time and I am having my shower on March 20th.  I'm really hoping that isn't cutting it too close, but it's the only time it would work out.

  • I will be nearly 38 weeks at my shower- we had to wait until my mum got into town from overseas (she missed my bridal shower and I really want her to be there for this one!).. I really hope that LO stays put through the shower- we have about 75 people on the guest list (only about 10 of them are friends... Both DH and I have HUGE families!)...

Plus everyone has invited themselves to stay at my house with the "oh don't worry, we won't get in your way- we will just help out" excuse. It's going to be interesting =)

  • I was just about 35 weeks at mine. The only reason it sucked waiting so long is because we have been super busy since then and haven't had time to get everything completely ready yet... and now that i ::cough, cough:: think my water may have broken a little while ago... I'm a little freaked out.

And on the topic of being uncomfortable, I'm huge (37 weeks, measuring 39) and I haven't gotten uncomfortable yet (knock on wood).  I am actually still loving this whole pregnant thing. So you may be perfectly fine right up until you push out your LO, you never know

  • My biggest one (family one) is at 36 weeks and I'm honestly really wishing it wasn't that late.  I know everything will probably be fine, but it is frustrating that we won't know what bigger items we're getting until then, we'll have to find/pay for everything we don't get in just a few weeks even if (best case scenario) I go all 40 weeks, and we could have picked things up at all the big consignment sales going on in the month or so before the shower if I didn't feel guilty about buying everything before the shower even gets here.  I have bought soo much already, so our registries are already about as small as I think they really should get to, so I just hate to buy more things before the showers.  Everyone is pissed I keep buying things, as well--but it makes me nervous to think that we'd have to get so much in just those few weeks before the baby comes, when I'm huge, cranky, and dying to go into labor any minute.

  • Hey...we share the same EDD!  I am having my BIG shower on March 6th, but my work is throwing me a shower on March 27th (yikes!) Because the baby could come 2 weeks early (well, sometimes even earlier), I wouldn't go past mid-March if I were you.
