stomach flu-- please help :*(

I haven't been sick in 6 hours or so, but I'm terribly uncomfortable with stomach pain, chills, and general misery.  I'm avoiding dehydration, but do you have any tried and true ways to ease the discomfort?

  • I feel for you! I had the stomach flu right before Christmas and I just wanted to die. I found that even if I didn't want to, forcing down a few crackers really did make a difference, as well as just taking little sips of water (DH brought up a large pitcher of ice water for me and I just sipped out of a straw, which somehow made me feel better).

I wish I had more advice, but it really did just suck. Take care of yourself and LO!!! Feel better soon!

  • Ginger ale or coke and crackers.  Like others have said, sip water.  Get lots of sleep and hopefully you will feel better soon!
  • I dont' have anything creative to add, but please stay well hydrated.  I had this bug a few weeks ago and had cramps so bad that I thought they were PTL contractions.  I had to get IV fluids in L&D.

  • Technically speaking, the stomach flu doesnt exist.  Sorry, just a pet peeve.  Most stomach ailments are food borne .Regardless of what this is, you're just going to have to let it do its thing.

No matter how poorly you feel, make sure to get plenty of liquids.  I know its easier said than done.  Dry cheerios, saltines, etc might settle the stomach as well as real ginger ale or ginger tea.

  • Well, if it doesn't exist, then I've known a lot of people with the same exact food borne illness all over the country at different times. Even my Dr. complained about it. Big Smile

The flu is the seasonal thing that goes around every year that they have vaccines for.  There are stomach bugs, but a stomach "flu" is a total misnomer.  I dont know why...it just irks me.  I'm just weird.

  • I think most people understand that what is commonly called the "stomach flu" is not influenza.  Confused

  • I had the stomach flu earlier this week and I totally feel your pain. I got it Tuesday evening and am just now eating normal food today. Only way I got by was by eating lots of crackers. I tried to eat a cracker every 15 minutes (didn't want to eat it all at once) and lots of ice chips and GATORADE!!! You need to hydrate and get electrolytes!! Feel better soon!!
  • Well if we're getting technical it's most commonly caused by the norovirus....FYI only bleach kills it on surfaces, so clorox wipe your house if you're family hasn't had it yet.
  • Ugh, I feel terrible for you. :( The stomach bug (whatever the fvck causes it) sucks. Big time. I hope you feel better soon!

Anytime I feel bad, laying down in the bottom of the tub while the hot shower goes always seems to help... and please stay hydrated!!
