infant carseats

I have the Chicco carseat that goes with the travel system. Does anyone have this?

I installed my infant seat yesterday (rear facing, in the middle) and it feels so wiggly! I know I did it right, and I tightened the belt as much as I could, but it still moves.

do you have this problem? is it normal/safe?

Re: infant carseats

  • Pretty sure it's not supposed to move.  Find a local place that will check it for you - usually hospitals do.  Police and fire stations do too, but not all - and many are appointment only.

  • I have a Chicco too. Haven't put it in yet. I have a Jeep Cherokee...unsure whether to put it in the middle or on a side. I've heard both. I'm going to go to a local fire station because I know they'll inspect to see if they're installed correctly.
  • I'd bring it to fire station/police dept to be inspected. Mine doesn't move at all....I have Keyfit 30 installed in middle. Subaru Legacy.
  • Are you using the base or just the seat with a seatbelt?  When we traveled and didn't take the base, it would move a tiny bit (even with DH muscling it in)!  With the base and LATCH, it wouldn't move at all.

  • mine didn't do that.  we have to have ours inspected here, prior to use.  DH installed it and then got it inspected for DD #1 and they said it wasn't tight enough . . he actually had to put a knee to it and pull to get it tighter. . also, it is possible that it isn't supposed to be installed in the middle. . check the manufacturers information or local police station to see where the best place to install the carseat is.
  • Mine doesn't move at all.  We took ours to a car seat inspection station after it was installed and they actually got it even tighter with some sort of tool.  We also have the latch system and that helps keep it tight they said.
