eh, it doesn't feel good, but mine haven't really hurt, either. You know that part of your annual exam where they jam a few fingers up you and then smoosh around on your belly? Sort of like that.
I wouldn't say its pleasant but I wouldn't say it hurts. The only time it hurt was the very first time when she was like trying to force a finger through my cervix because she wanted me to be dilated
I wouldn't say it really hurts... it is uncomfortable though. Before doing it, my dr. apologized in advance if it felt like he was reaching for my throat
As pp said, it was most similar to that part of an exam, but only it took longer and it did feel like he was a bit deeper, a few minimal sharp pangs.
If you're not told, it is likely that you'll spot afterward. My dr did warn me, and I was already spotting by the time I initially wiped after the exam. The only time I've spotted thus far the entire pregnancy.
I had 2 OB's one for checkups and then the other ended up delivery ds. With the 1st guy it lifted me off the table kind of hurt but the delivery doc didn't hurt at all. DH was joking about how one had chubby short finger and the other didn't..yeh hilarious hubby.
I have only had 1 internal that ever hurt. I didn't even find it very uncomfortable. The only 1 that hurt was a "rough" internal because he was trying get my cervix to open a bit.

My first 2 were about the same as a pap smear but this last one was terrible. I think it has a lot to do with your doctor's technique. My last one was with a doctor that I never had before.
My 1st internal hurt! I've had a couple since and they've been better. I've been on bed rest for awhile and haven't done the deed for a month or longer, so that could be why it hurt me. Just breathe deep, relax and know it'll be over in a minute or less.
Yup, I'd agree, I'm sure it depends on a lot of factors... Mine didn't hurt personally, but I've only had one, and I'll have another doc do it next week, soo we'll see.
My first one hurt; my second was just uncomfortable. It was certainly more uncomfortable than a pap smear, probably because it seems to take a lot longer since she has to reach behind the baby's head to get at my cervix.

My first one was pretty much like this. I wouldn't say she "jammed" her fingers in there, but you know how your regular exam is.... I guess it has the potential to be more uncomfortable if they do other things, like strip your membranes.
My first one was only a bit of pressure. As for my second one- LO flipped and was no longer putting any head down pressure onto my cervix and that internal was a bit uncomforterable.
I had my first yesterday and yes, mine hurt. I also wound up bleeding pretty good from it- enough to pass a sizable clot and I am still spotting today. I am in no hurry to repeat this next week.
Re: Do Internals hurt?
if you scoll down a bit, you'll find one of my posts that asks people's opinions on this....it really depends on you, your body and your doc.
