California Baby - opinions?

I've heard good things about the brand, but was curious as to what fellow bumpies thought about their products.  Also, which products would you recommend?  We plan on cloth diapering, if that helps, and I noticed they have a shampoo/body wash and also a conditioner - do babies need conditioner?  TIA!

  • We've used the bubble bath and liked it, but I prefer Burt's Bees (just like the scent better).

I guess whether you'll need conditioner depends on your baby.  DS has very fine hair and we've never used conditioner, just a little shampoo now and then.

  • We've used Cali Baby for our 4 yo since he was a NB. We love it. They have a 'sensitive' one that we've already bought for the baby, and it's great - gentle and effective.

And no, we've never bought the conditioner. We may with DD when she gets enough hair for it to be an issue, but with a boy, it's never been necessary. Besides, I have bald babies Smile

I do recommend buying the bigger bottles that come with the pump instead of the ones you have to open and turn over to get stuff out. THe pump makes washing easy - now, DS can handle every step of bathtime and he couldn't get stuff out of the smaller squeeze bottles. It's also easier with a NB.

I love the shampoo/body wash, and I would recommend a moisturizer for LO as well.

  • Love their products but use Burt's Bees as well. I have not used conditioner on DS. They have a great baby wash called super sensitive for newborns or babies with eczema. The diaper cream is great for CDs, but I've also used Burt's with no problems.

  • I bought their diaper rash cream to have on hand since it is safe for cloth diapers. I believe we were given some bubble bath, also.
  • We've used Cali and Burt's Bees, and we've stuck with Cali.  We use the Super Sensitive shampoo/body wash b/c I feel like it will be gentler.  We don't use conditioner.

  • I LOVE California Baby.  DH and I actually use it too because we both have very sensitive skin.  We've never used the conditioner on DD; the shampoo has always been sufficient, but she has short, fine hair still. . . One thing to realize is that because it doesn't have any laureth sulfate (or similar), it doesn't lather the same as regular shampoos.  A lot of people make the mistake of trying to get it to lather really well and waste a lot of shampoo.

I also like Burt's Bees products; we use their lotion and butt cream for DD. And the Momma Butter for me.

  • We use the super sensitive hair and body wash for DD.   Its really expensive, but DD has eczema, so something like J&J really irritates her skin.  And, no, babies don't need conditioner (well maybe if they had a lot more hair than my DD, but at almost 2 she still doesn't need it).
  • I love the products I have used. We use a lot of the CA baby sensitive/fragrance free sunscreen living here in LA. So many of the other ones have tons of chemicals and fragrance. It is pricey, but a tube lasts a long time, and we use so much sunscreen I don't want to dump chemicals all over her skin.  BTW, you aren't supposed to use sunblock until 6 mos. I also love their calming lotion. We use Nature's Baby leave in conditioner for DD. But, she didn't need any conditioner when she was a baby even though she had hair.
