numbness in hands/fingers?

anyone else? sometimes i wake up and i cant even hit the buttons on my cell cause their sooo numb! even during the day, i find that my fingertips are numb on and off...

just another joy of pregnancy? i did read that pregnancy makes carpel tunnel worse (i have a slight case), but it doesnt usually make my fingertips numb. i do wear a wrist guard to bed sometimes... that seems to help, but what to do during the day? i cant go around wearing a wrist guard looking like a pro-bowler :)

Re: numbness in hands/fingers?

  • I wake up often with my hand or hands that are numb.  I havent had it during the day though.  I just chalked it up to pregnancy.

  • Just another joy of pregnancy..  I have had numb finger tips for the past 3 weeks and it started with just coming and going.   My dr. said it should go away after I deliever and that I could wear a brace if I want, but i don't.   After a while you kind of get used to it, unless they are really really numb, which can get a little painful.

  • yup, just another joy.

just wait, sometimes I have it from the elbows down!

Means your body is doing the right thing though- producing more blood (which engorges tissues... putting pressure on the nerves thus causing the numbness) so that the blood you lose in delivery won't be as traumatic on your body. At least this is what my doc tells me.

  • Yes it happens to me frequently at night. It's carpal tunnel and apparently it's worse at night because you aren't keeping your hands elevated (and may be lying on them/sitting on them, etc. while you sleep) which worsens the swelling in the tendons. If you have a desk job, there are recommendations online about how to be ergonomic. Try to type so your hand/wrist is "straight," not bent down, if that makes sense. Just google carpal tunnel and you should find some helpful advice.

  • This preganancy, so far so good, but last time I couldn't feel my fingertips for the last month at least.  The feeling came back within days of having ds.
