3rd Trimester

BH only when i stand up...

anyone else have this? my whole belly gets extremely hard and my breathing gets harder but it doesn't knock me off my feet. my mom did not know her contractions were real contractions with her first child and is concerned that this is it but i'm thinking these aren't the real thing. i have a dr.'s appt tomorrow morning so i'll ask then but wondered if anyone has this standing BH issue?

Re: BH only when i stand up...

  • The only time I get anything that really feels like BH or contractions are at the end of the day, usually after I stand up after sitting for a bit. But they always go away once I sit down--so maybe it's not BH? So hard to say at this point. Definitely worth asking your doctor tomorrow. Good luck!

  • This is what I've been experiencing too, especially at work.  If I sit at my desk for a while and then get up and walk around, I get a pretty strong contraction.  When I sit down again, it goes away.  I assume they're not real contractions because then they wouldn't go away when I sit.
  • I've been having this for a while, sometimes stronger than others, but a contraction when I go from sitting to standing. I've assumed they are BH because I'd be pretty early to have real contractions (especially a couple weeks ago when this started)
  • For a while I only got them when I stood up or after I went to that bathroom.  But in the last week or so, I've started getting them when I sit, too.  I think they are transitioning into more "real" contractions, though since they are usually timeable now and they weren't before.

Even though this is my second, I'm also worried I won't be able to tell I'm in active labor until it is too late.   I decided a good way to "address" this issue is to go in once contractions (BH or otherwise) come five minutes apart.

  • I get BH every time I stand up I hate it so I've been laying down a lot lately...
  • Same here.  Especially at night.  Especially if I've had a lot of liquid (which is, of course, every day).  But they always go away when I sit again.  I'm guessing you're fine--mention them to your doc, but it sounds like your body is just getting ready to get ready.
