I want to do a chair rail in the nursery but I don't know how hard it is to put up. Anyone have any idea? How far up the wall are you supposed to put it?
I have it in LO's room...but only because when we bought the house it was there... I really have no idea, but couldn't imagine it being that hard to do. The old owner's of this house were pretty stupid, and it turned out nice.... GL
DH and FIL put up our chair rail. Well, really, FIL did it while DH kind of looked on helplessly. :P They put it so it was lined up with the bottom of the window sill. They got it done in an afternoon. One thing that helped make it look really nice is that where they had to put two pieces together on the longer walls, FIL cut them at an angle so they overlapped instead of having a straight seam to try to cover up.
FIL had some cheap plastic thing with guides for the different angles and he used a hand saw to cut the chair rail. Nothing fancy and it looks great!

We did. You just have to do miter cuts (or DH did). PP is right about the plastic box with the different angled cuts. I think ours is right around 2ft from the baseboard...not the floor
We did this. It wasn't hard to put up, just requires precise cutting. I think the average height is 32-36" from the floor. You can find that info on the internet. I think it is worth it, makes the room look so cozy and cute. I live in AZ in a new build so our rooms lack much charm. The chair rail makes it look cute.
We did. DH & FIL did it in an afternoon; I believe it is 36in from the floor. They also made angeled cuts so it was easier to match up. One thing, DH painted them before putting them up only to have to re-paint them so if you do paint them, put them up first to save some time! I'm going to try to put a pic in, I hope it works!
YUP! My hubby's brother helped us, he works on houses for a living. he told us standard was about 36" up...it was a snap, we used a nail gun which really helped (other stuff we had done would splinter when trying to hammer trim nails into) I don't know how to insert pics either or i would do the same! HA!

If I knew how to post a picture I would!
