This is my first week back full-time (I've been PT since November), and we just got a new client at work that is going to require several evening meetings an hour and a half away from home over the next month and a half. DH is an insurance agent and meets with clients in the evenings...I don't know how I'm going to do this!! What would you do?? I don't want to tell my boss I can't do it, but I can't stand not seeing DD and she would be in bed already by the time I get home...

Re: Night meetings
The first part is finding a sitter. I am lucky that I have my mom nearby and is pretty much available to help when needed. Then, can you ask your boss to let you have a late start that day so you dont miss out on DD completely or even work from home that day so you are only driving to the meeting and to the office and then the meeting?
When I have late days, then I can start late, which gives me time to spend w the kids in the mornings. And if I have to work on a weekend, then I get comp time that I can use to take time off during the week. I love it.
I am a state lobbyist which means when the legislature is in session - which is Jan-May here - I work a lot of evenings (on top of full days) and it's totally unpredictable too. Nothing is scheduled. So I just have to assume I won't see my girls those evenings. My husband can usually pick them up and handle them but occasionally he has something in the evenings too. When that happens we get a sitter.
I will be honest. It sucks when those times come around. It's a pain to work out the logistics of getting DDs home from daycare and letting the sitter in... It SUCKS to not spend any time with them for a 24 hour period... (pretty much). But you know what? They're just fine. I'm more emotional over it than they are.
What I would do is what I have done which is suck it up (I don't mean that to sound mean, just to indicate that I realize it is a lot to swallow) and do what work needs you to do. It might be different if it was all the time but it doesn't sound like that will be the case... It will suck, but it will be fine. You will all be fine.
Just my opinion.
Hey I saw you are from Springfield - I am originally from Pawnee! Small world...
Crazy! Wow. The big metropolis of Pawnee.
