umm so please tell me this is normal

Happy 36 1/2 weeks to me and baby.... but today was my first weekly appt and internal (YUCK) and Doc says to me all calm and nonchantlantly--- how ya feeling? you look great - progressing very well... you're already 2cm dilated.. ( as though I was expecting her to tell me this???) However, if my head could have whipped back any faster I would have snapped my neck as would have my DH.... What? Come again? I'm what?? In total panic mode now.... just had the bedrooms carpeted yesterday so all 3 bedrooms are in my livingroom, shower was this past saturday and obviously nothings put away - although laundry of all the new clothes and essentials are washed and folded... furniture is in the last stages of being stained... and i have bedroom and closet doors to be re-hung once DH cuts them down- due to new carpet...

 PLEASE tell me that there are others out there dilated right now and have no labor symptoms..... or elders tell me that you were dilated and still went to your EDD or close to it.... i need at least the weekend....I'm praying for just the weekend- although I really do want my lil'l shamrock to come in March as planned....  TIA i'm a ball of emotions right now ladies.... <<ok breathing>>

Many women walk around 2,3 or 4 cm dilated for weeks. It really doesnt mean much, babies come when they are ready

there is no telling!!!! could be tomorrow, could be in 6 weeks!! happy freaking out!!   My LO dropped the week before christmas, and they have been telling me any day now, ever since then. BOOOOOO!  And what's worse is that I have had the house "ready" since the end of Dec.  and am so bored now waiting!

I've been 2cm and 50% effaced since my 36 week appt.. not sure what tomorrows 39 week appt will bring.. but I've had zero symptoms otherwise.. So you could very well just sit there at 2cm for the next 4 or 5 weeks.  A friend of mine that was due the same day I am, was still completely un-dilated and not effaced at ALL last Thursday at her 38 week appt, but went into labor Monday morning and had her baby boy last night.. So really, I think the information they give you during a cervix check is useless

OH DEAR LORD----thank you!!!!  thought doc was blowing smoke after seeing my reaction..... I sure hope I become one of these women you speak of.... <<<sigh>>>

You can be 3-4 cms for weeks... as long as your water doesn't break, you are safe :-)

I'm a "fingertip" already but I could still go to 42 weeks! Hope not! :-)

My sister was 3cm and 100% effaced for like 2 weeks!

33w 2cm hard cervix

35w 3cm cervix still hard

36w 3 1/2cm 70% effaced

37w 4cm 70% effaced

I have not had any painful contractions. A few took my breathe away but that is normal. It all depends on when LO is ready. I could be today or 3 weeks from now. I do wish you the best of luck!

Thanks ladies... i figured as much but needed some comfort I guess in knowing it's normal..... gotta get my butt in gear and let nature just do its thing... at this point... thanks again....

Yeah, I think you can be stuck at 2cm for weeks, but everyone is different.

With my DD, I walked around at 2cm for over a month. Even 2 days before my EDD my doctor said he didn't think he'd see me again before the next week because I had not changed in that long. Luckily the following day, my water broke and DD was born the next day on her EDD.
