3rd Trimester

First Webster/chiro app't to flip breech baby (super long)

I said earlier today that I'd update after my chiro appointment tonight. My DD2 is breech, nothing (yoga poses, inverting myself, etc.) has budged her, so I'm giving Webster a try with my OB's okay.

I had my neck adjusted once and that's pretty much the extent of my experience with chiros. This seemed quite a bit gentler. She had a low, padded table with different sections that she'd pull up, then they would drop a couple of inches as she pushed on whichever part she was adjusting. I would lay on either my belly (on top of two memory foam pillows with holes for my belly) or on my back for short periods.

Before anything else, we sat and talked a lot about what symptoms (aches, headaches, RLP, rib pain, etc.) that I've had this pregnancy and how my first pregnancy and birth went.

The actual adjustment process was interesting. Apparently my pelvis is tilted/twisted and my sacrum is stiff. She did a lot of poking and prodding and turned up quite a few tender spots that I never would've noticed myself. She worked most on my hips/pelvis, adjusting from both the front and back. But she evaluated everything from my neck on down and adjusted whatever was necessary (like my neck) along the way.

It didn't hurt, although I did feel occasional pressure, and of course the tenderness as she prodded around. LO didn't seem to mind, although she did bounce around a bit from time to time. The chiro said I shouldn't be surprised to wake up a bit sore, but I haven't been so far.

I felt a little odd walking out of there, lopsided or something. The only real "a-ha" moment was that she was feeling along my round ligaments, which were sore/tight, and then she did some pelvic adjustments and felt the ligaments again, and they suddenly weren't sore at all. She also gave me advice on some exercises and wants me to do some massage on my right-side ligament.

She said that the typical routine is to be adjusted every other day until the baby turns, but since I'm still early, she said I could come back Monday since we don't need to be so aggressive, and it *could* only take one session for LO to turn. I'm not sure how I feel about that or many sessions I'll do if LO doesn't turn soon, since we're paying OOP; or if I'll combine it with acupuncture or what as the pregnancy goes on.

Hope that helps someone! I'm really hoping this works.

Re: First Webster/chiro app't to flip breech baby (super long)

  • Very interesting, I almost visited a different Chiro last time (mine didnt treat pg women specifically) so I could get her to move.  High Risk OB has a lot of success with women who play music between their legs.  DD went half way and went back.  The theory is they will move to find what the sound is.  Just like 10 min a day 3 times a day and play like rock or something upbeat.  Its worth a try.  She did finally flip 4 days before due date.  DS just flipped this past week.  Doesnt matter I have a scheduled C/S already.

  • I went 4 times to the chiropractor for both sciatica and breech baby. It helped for the sciatica but no luck turning the baby. Hope you have better luck!
  • I had my first chiropractic/flip-the-baby appointment today, too!

I'm going back 3 times next week as well.

Keep us all posted! I'm curious to see if/when this will work. :)

  • I have gone to the chiro for my sciatic pain and it is totally gone.  I had a really hard time finding a chiro for the Webster.  My dad's best friend is a chiro and he even called the state board to find one, and we only found 1 that is certified.  I got a list off of a website, but half of them didn't practice the Webster method anymore.

I have done acupuncture in the past for all sorts of things and it really helps.

I've scheduled my version for Friday morning.  My OB will only do them in the OR so as long as there isn't an emergency we are going to try.

  • check out using a moxa stick on your little toe - this is part of an acupuncture technique used to turn babies - google "moxa breech baby" supposedly works as much as 90% of the time.  I recently became certified/licensed in Acu - haven't had to opportunity to use it myself, but always had teachers rave about how easy it was!
  • I am jealous, not that your baby is breech of course, but that you went to the Chiropractor. I love being cracked, so I would love to go, but I just haven't been motivated to make an appt. I want to get a prenatal massage before baby is born as well, but haven't made an appt for that either.
