So I live in MD and a winter storm watch just went up. We could get up to 20 inches of snow by Sat anyone else worried about going into labor during a snow storm?

  • Lol Read a few posts below yours. =)

I'm not far along enough, but we're getting a storm, too and I'd be scared if I were 37+ weeks.

  • Yes and no.  But mostly no.

I wish we were getting these storms everyone else is. Sad

  • Yes! I live in MD too.  Our hospital (Mercy) is 30 minutes from our house without traffic.  In a snowstorm? God only knows!

I've actually worried about this since finding out my due date, since Feb is so often the worst time for winter weather around here....

  • I am, but surprisingly there are no storms in sight.

  • Yes, I'm in MD too - Montgomery County.  I am 38 weeks, they're talking about another massive snowstorm and my parents will be out of town this weekend.  The stars are aligned!  Luckily, the hospital is only 2 miles from our house and we have 4wd.  I'm not really that concerned, althought it would make for a good birth story.
  • p.s. The only good thing is the onesie I have that says "Snow Baby" just in case.   :)
  • Ah, I live in Chicago and the second I heard my due date I thought to myself "Great.. probably in the middle of a blizzard."

... I'm kind of numb to the idea now.  At least our city does well with clearing the roadways pretty quickly.

  • We have an all wheel drive small SUV and 4 wheel drive truck but MD sucks with clearing roads.  The hosp is about 10 miles away.  I have a doc appointment tomorrow as of last week I had no progress so we will see what she says this week.  if thre is progress I am going to ask what is the chance..... LOL

  • I am most definately afraid of that ---- I'm not due until the end of March -- but I live in New Mexico and the weather here can be snow in July!!!!!!! it's very unpreticable........

  • I live in michigan and YES. But thankfully we don't have too much snow on the radar. Although I don't believe anything till I see it! We got a dusting of an inch last night (no biggy) and they say we shouldn't get much, if any more... Till next tues or so, which is right around the "ANY SECOND" my water could break.  Although I am set for a c-section thursday... Who knows if baby might want to come early!
  • What is funny when I found out my due date was Feb I joked and said watch we will have the worst winter ever and my joke is coming true

  • I'm not to worried about it. If it happens, no big deal. We live 5 min from the hospital and have a 4 wheel drive vehicle so...it would be fine for us either way. Good luck to you though!
  • I live in Northern Canada so I fully expect the weather to change to blizzard type or freezing cold (think -40 cold) at any time.  We only have a car and a little truck, but I've driven my car in 2+ feet of uncleared snow before, so I'm not concerned.  I'm used to it though and when I found out my due date was beginning of Feb, I just automatically assumed baby would be born on the coldest day of the year or the day a blizzard came up.....

  • Yes- We live in southern MD- they are calling for 2-3 feet of snow.  And our hospital is 2 hours away.  Eeek!  At least I had no progress at my visit on Tuesday...

  • I live in VA, and were supposed to get snow again this weekend, i was worried about it last weekend when it snowed and this time I am just as worried especially since my due date is Monday.  I go in on Friday to see where I'm at, Hopefully I have made some progress.

  • I'll be thinking of all of you DC area mamas.  I'm only 35 weeks, so I'm not too worried, but it's certainly scary--20 inches!  Ack!  Let's just keep an eye on things as they keep progressing.

I only live 2 blocks from my hospital (Georgetown), so I'll be okay, even if I have to trudge through that snow!

  • Not really. I think NC is supposed to get more snow this weekend, but if I go into labor and can't get out of my house I'll just call an ambulance.
  • No... I live in Chicago and am from Minnesota: I'm used to the snow.  I chose my hospital partly because it's so close.
  • I'm lucky - snowy winters for states outside of Alaska usually spell mild winters for us. We haven't had much snow where I live, but have had tons of ice. It's been kind of nice considering the incredibly snowy winters we had previously! So, when baby comes, we'll just drive slow. Besides, the hospital isn't far from where I live :)

  • i wasn't, until i woke up this morning and it was snowing. i found myself thinking about how long it would take if i had to drive to the hospital while it is snowing. the hospital is about a 30 minute drive and thats when its not snowing. and getting there safely, and if the roads aren't plowed, and if theres an accident on the highway. I'm just praying it doesn't snow.
  • I was at my appt today and my dr joked that she was waiting for the snow storm this weekend.  I live in WV but my hospital is in VA about 20 min away.  We took the back roads this morning to see how they were since we got about 6 inches or so here last night.  They actually weren't too too bad, but again, it is during the week, when they do a better job of clearing the roads.  I have no idea how they would be on a weekend...they don't seem to care about them as much here.  It should make a very interesting trip to the hospital to say the least!
  • i have said all along the only time i'm goign to go into labor is if there is a snow storm..of all weeks, this week they are predicting 2 mores after last nights storm.  I have a line up of friends to go call when i have to go to the hospital being my husband works in the city..1/2 them wont drive when it snows etc. my family probably wont come either being they have to drive 4 hours from boston.. MY Luck!
