im sure its different in every state but i heard that if your work doesnt offer paid leave then you can colllect unemployment while on leave...anyone know anything about this?
I have never heard of this. I don't see how unemplyment would work because technically you are still employed by your company. Your company would also end up taking the hit for the unemployment if that was true.

You are aware of the fact that most states in this country are in the middle of a budget crisis? That many ran out of unemployment funds for the people who are actually unemployed for legitimate reasons quite some time ago?
I am pretty sure that with unemployement you have to be able to work, if you are out of work because your doctor is keeping you out then you wouldn't be able to claim unemployment because you wouldn't be open and available for work. I could be wrong though.
when you say your company doesn't offer paid leave, are you implying that you cannot collect temporary disability from the state through your company? I know in NJ, DI is an automatic tax that comes out of your weekly (or bi-weekly) paycheck....

my manager was the one who brought it up. he said i just need a note from the company stating that they have under 75 employees so they dont offer paid leave...
Uh, no. I don't think you can. Unemployment are for individuals who are capable of working but get fired or laid off. If you have a baby you are either capable or working and quit (even temporarily) or you are incapable of working. I think you have to look at other options but it might be worth poking around the unemployment website for your state anyway.
