Intro and ? about Baylor Frisco

Hi ladies ... I am new to this board, but thought I would introduce myself! I live in Frisco and am due June 4th with my first!

Does anybody have any experience with Baylor Frisco? If so, pro's/cons? My doctor just told me that she can deliver there (along with Plano Presby/Centennial Frisco).

Re: Intro and ? about Baylor Frisco

  • LOVED Baylor Frisco!!  I had twins there in August 2008.  I was on bedrest the week prior in the hospital for 2 1/2 days and I was there staying after my c-section from Tuesday - Saturday.

    Things I liked:

    snack room for DH/guests

    big room

    lobster/steak dinner

DH had a pull out couch to stay on

    clean

    super nice and friendly staff!!!

    free blankets

babies were with us unless we requested they be taken out

great cafeteria - and cheap too (seriously, my dad LOVED the food there)

no visitation hours or limits (as long as you aren't disturbing others)

smaller hospital so less commotion/traffic; easy for guests to park and come to see you (Presby Plano was horrible the few times I had to go there for doctor appointments/X-rays for the boys)

free educational classes (we did child birth and CPR)

car seat checks (this is for anyone though; been there 3 times to check car seats)

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.  I seriously was impressed and didn't have any complaints or issues about it except for one night nurse that was helping with breast feeding (she was great the next night so maybe it was just an off day!).

If you have any specific questions, please page me.

I would also recommend that you take a tour of the facilities you are considering.  It may sway you in one direction or another.

    I forgot to say Congratulations!!!

  • I agree. I LOVED Baylor Frisco

    Things I liked:

    1) Staff was generally very nice. I had one weird nurse, but she was still "nice."
    2) Snacks close by
    3) The food was overall really good. There was some not so great items, but that's to be expected.
    4) Nice room and big bathroom
    5) Their policy is to keep baby with you unless you specifically request them to take them out
    6) Car seat class (a MUST do)
    7) They'll feed your DH too
    8) Free and very cute baby blanket

    Things I didn't like:

    1) They forced me to use the eye prophylaxis even though I signed a waiver.
    2) The roll out bed for DH was VERY uncomfortable.
    3) The so-called Tempurpedic bed for me was soooo not a Tempurpedic bed.

I had to have surgery after the baby and I chose to go back to Baylor. My second experience was just as good as my first. I'll definitely have my second baby there. Good luck!!

  • I have nothing really to add to this post since I have not been to this hospital (or any hospitals around here). I just wanted to say

    ORANGE POWER!!! :D

I will kick cancer's ass Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Dx Breast Cancer 4/2012 Invasive ductal carcinoma triple negative Currently on Taxol, start A & C in August
  • I didn't get a good feeling at Plano Presby. They have a mandatory time for babies to go to the nursery and that's when the pedi sees them. I didn't want to have the pedi see my baby without me there. Also, when I asked them about their natural childbirth rate, they looked at me like I was clinically insane.

    Oh, and ditto ORANGE POWER!!

  • I have nothing new to add just that I love Baylor Frisco just as much as the PP.

Seriously the best hospital I have ever been to.

  • Another Cowboys fan here!!!  :)

    GO POKES!!

  • I also have nothing new to add to the above Pro lists. Neither I or DH had any cons regarding Baylor Frisco. LOVED IT!
  • Wow! Lot's of former cowboys on here!!

Thanks again for the advice ... glad you all have had such good experiences with Baylor!!

I just had my baby at Plano Presby 2 weeks ago and the pedi came to my room each day to check out the baby.  I never had her go to the nursery unless I asked them to take her - and no one pressured me at all, it was really nice because I hate pressure.  They did everything in the room - it was really great - they even cleaned her right after she was born right in front of me.  This was baby #2 for me and I liked Plano Presby much more than McKinney where I had DD#1.  No experience with Baylor Frisco, but wanted to clarify the pedi visits from my experience.  Oh, and I had a scheduled c-section so I don't have any comments on the natural birth rate, but the c-section experience was extremely smooth - I ended up with a c-section with DD#1, in McKinney, which was why I had a repeat.

  • Maybe they've changed their policy, but they specifically told me I HAD to take the baby to the nursery at a specific time. I didn't like that. I'm glad they've changed their tune.

I think they did since your baby was born - it's been pretty recent - they are trying to be a 'baby friendly' hospital now and I guess you have to do certain things to be able to call yourself that.  I know they don't give paci's anymore since they are so pro-breast feeding, don't take the baby out of your sight after it's born - ours was a c-section so they wiped her down initially right there and had the table where they did it where I could see her, then DH went with the baby to my recovery room and when I got there they finished cleaning her up - this was just a few minutes later.  They held her so I could breastfeed while I was in recovery too.  They didn't even take her to a nursery for a minute - it was really nice for me.  I missed all of this with DD#1 at McKinney because they took her to the nursery right after she was born to clean her up.

  • LOVED Baylor Frisco!  Nurses were fantastic, food was great.  Great overall experience.

DD had tubes put in at Cent. and it was fine (although it was outpatient, so I don't know about L&D), but I would recommend going to Baylor Frisco!
