when DH proposed was it a surprise?

DH told me he was going to propose when I came up to see him that week.  I hate surprises.

Total surprise. We were on our way to Montana, early morning and he got down on one knee when we pulled off the road to snap some pics of the mountains.

Sort of - I knew he had the ring, but I didn't know when it was shipped to him [special ordered/designed].  So I wasn't super surprised, but didn't know the exact date he would get it/do it.

Yes and no.  DH asked to go on a picnic so I thought maybe, but then remembered we had a HUGE fight about getting engaged the week before.

yep, we were at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and it was a total surprise.

I knew he had the ring, but I had no idea when he was going to propose, So technically, no, it wasnt a surprise, but when he did propose, I was caught off guard and he was SO nervous he was shaking and it was still a very awesome moment.

Total surprise.  DS and I went up with DH to his parents to celebrate Christmas the weekend before.  He gave me a gift marked "from Nathan" in it was a ring, he had a Santa hat on and just happened to be kneeling in front of me.  In front of his WHOLE family, it is all on video.

yep.  when we had been together a year he gave me a solitaire diamond - that fuh-reaked me out because I was just NOT ready - and it came up missing 18 mos later after I was cooking a bunch of food (he had some friends over that were in town for the weekend) and I was sure someone stole it.  That was Saturday. Then Sunday he lied to me, took it to get reset in my e-ring, and we left on vacation on wed morning.  I was so bummed about not finding it.  He proposed on Friday morning at sunrise over the ocean.  That ring rode about 700 miles in the rim of the spare tire in his trunk.  Totally shocked and happy to have my diamond back! 

ETA: He paid these two 14-15 yr old girls $20 for them to take pics while he proposed - and they were decent pics....but I looked horrible since we jumped straight out of bed to catch the sunrise.

He wanted it to be, and as far as he knows, it was.    I had a really good idea there was a ring (and resisted the urge to snoop), and it became obvious that it was coming the night he did it.

Yep. At my college graduation. He was on stage when I walked across the it to get my diploma. He said he wanted to wait until we had both graduated( he graduated in May and mine was in December) but I didn't think it would be right after I received my diploma.

I was expecting it to happen at some point in the future, but he couldn't wait and totally surprised me one day as soon as I walked in the door from work.  So, sort of a surprise in that I thought it wouldn't happen for quite a while longer, but not a surprise in that we talked about a "future" together...and he asked me what types of rings I liked.  ;-)

It was a surprise. He always said we were on the 6 year plan so when it came at just 1 year I had no idea.

Semi surprise.  We had looked at rings together and he knew exactly what I wanted, but I had no idea when he was going to do it.  That night I  was totally not expecting it, so that part was a surprise!
