Part time child care?

Hi Ladies! question for ya'll..

I'm thinking about cutting back to part time at my job, but am having a hard time finding child care for my little one for the 3 days I'll be working that doesn't cost as much as the full week. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Currently she's in a daycare center but I'm open to in-home/nanny type situations, just not sure how to find a good reputable one...

 Thanks in advance!

Re: Part time child care?

  • check with your county or state. They usually have a list of licensed care providers near you.

There is also care.com where you can search for ones in your area. Not sure if they tell you if they are licensed or not but they do give reviews.

  • I would just keep calling around. Have you posted a question on your local mom's board? I work 3 days/week and both kids are in a daycare center those 3 days. It was a little hard to find a place that would do part time but they are out there. And I feel like places are starting to become more flexible due to the economy. Our old daycare was considering dropping the part-time option, but when the economy tanked, people started losing their jobs and many kids were taken out of daycare. The center had to be more flexible to keep their current kids and attract others.
  • Not every center offers part time care, but I found a local center and a local in-home that both gave me pricing for 3 days a week.

Just keep looking!  They are out there!

Oh, and I found my in-home on craigslist, and I LOVE her, and we are SO happy with her.  So you might try looking on there also.  Just go with your gut, do background checks, etc.

  • Around me it's usually the churches that offer p/t daycare options. Both programs DD's been in have offered eveything from 1day/wk Mother's Day Out (9am-2pm) to full time daycare and basically anything between those two extremes is an option. Depending on what you need, some places that just offer MDO also have "extended hours" that might make it into a full day of care.
