The theory is that boy sperm swim faster, and girl sperm live longer. Say you had sex 3 days before you ovulated, chances are more likely you'd have a girl. Sex ONLY on the day of O would suggest a boy.
I'm just curious to find out from you guys (because I'm sure most of you know what you're having) what was your experience with this? Just trying to see how accurate this method really is.
Re: Shettle's method. how did it work for u?
I'm curious too...

This is what I meant to say! LOL
This!
haha- THIS! My husband had just returned from a 14-month deployment. We were having sex about 3 times a day, every day, since the day he got home. I don't know which day was "the lucky day" but we're having a girl
)
We didn't go through a deployment but dh had just graduated boot camp and we had just gotten to live together again. All I am gonna say is how much I LOVE his sailor uniform! lol
lol, ditto this for us. DH had just returned from deployment.
I read about this when I started charting my periods when we first started trying. We had sexy time on the day I ovulated (or at least thats what all the little signs you follow said like discharge and temp). We are having a boy.
Well I was really keen for a girl so I made sure we had sex a few days before I ovulated.
But then when it came down to it I just really wanted a baby so we had sex on the day I thought I was ovulating too.
We had a girl.

We had sex 4 days before ovulation and are having a boy. Theory disproved in our case. Not that we were trying for one or the other, but at least we can abandon false hope should we ever consider Shettles.
We weren't specifically using Shettles but with both pregnancies I used OPKs (my ovulation and length of cycle is all over the place) and we had sex only on the day I ovuated and the day after. We have 2 boys so it holds true for us.
We would like #3 to be a girl so I am going to try to use Shettles more actively - the problem I have is that because I don't know when I will ovulate it's difficult to time sex only for a few days before O.
Opposite for us. We had sex 3 days prior to O and are having a boy.
Not at all! According to Shettles, I would be having a girl- we had sex 5 days before I ovulated (yes, you got that right, and then were in different states, so there was no other time that month). I am having another boy.
The 5 day thing did make my husband laugh and say he has "super-sperm". (and yes, I was charting, so I know when I ovulated).
I guess it didn't hold true for us. We're definitely having a boy. I only know because I had been using ovulation strips and right after we had sex I went out of town. I kept using the strips and they said I ovulated 2 days afterward.
