3rd Trimester

its starting to feel real!

i had my 31 wk appt today with a NP (i met her for the first time) and she started to ask me those questions that had me realizing i only have about 9 weeks to get everything settled!!

have you found a ped yet? no - ive been putting that off.. well, you need to find a ped as the ped will check your baby in the hospital..

will your circumsize your baby if its a boy? yes.. it will be done in the drs office when he is a week old due to some insurance companies not covering it in the hospital..

have you registered yet for the hospital? no - i havent.. then dh saves the day by saying that the information should be there since i was hospitalized twice during 1st trimester..

your baby will be sleeping with you in the hospital.. oh ok - and that scares me since we would not bring a monitor to help us wake up when the baby cries (we're deaf if you are wondering).. dh tells me not to worry...

will you be taking a childbirth class? yes - good as you will get to have a tour of the hospital..

the good news is that i get another ultrasound scheduled when im 34 weeks..

Re: its starting to feel real!

  • i know how you feel :-) Things really start to sink in when those ?'s are asked. And it's a great feeling when you realize that you are more prepared than you thought :-)
  • I just did my health assessment over the phone with our hospital today (just routine health history), and I couldn't remember my last tetanus shot or my blood type! I felt like dope, lol. I called the doctor's office to see when the last tetanus shot was, ant they don't have it on record; I've been with this office for 10 years, so it's obviously been a long time! They said I can update it at my appointment on Wednesday. It really has started to sink in though that we're really close, and I know DH and I still have quite a bit to do!

  • I know what you mean!  Its all about the details now!

One comment - most of my friends/sisters who have kids have told me no matter what the hospital tries to tell you, you do not want the baby sleeping with you while you are trying to sleep.  First you need your sleep, second, you may be out of it if you are getting an epidural and third, your baby should be in the nursery, where it can be watched over by someone that hasn't just been through giving birth.

I consider that good advice from people who have been there done that....GL!
