maternity leave boredom?

Is anyone afraid they may be a little bit bored on maternity leave?  I never thought of it until my neighbor asked me the other day what "projects" I had planned.  I have nothing planned besides hanging out with LO.  She gave me the "you may get a little bored" talk.  I'm definitely a person who must be doing something at all times.  I can't just sit down and watch TV for an entire day.

Anyone else think they may get bored?  Should I start thinking of to-do items?

  • I can't imagine how much downtime you will get. All the downtime I get I plan on reading, working out and sleeping.
  • I wish I had time to be bored when I was off with ds, normal tasks take a little longer with dc in tow.

  • As much as I am going to love staying home with LO for a time, I really hope I feel good enough to work on some projects. I already know I will go crazy unless I have something in mind... I have a quilt I started last fall (it's all squares still) that I'd love to finish for our living room, and I also want to plant some plants in our front yard... and learn how to divide irises. :) I'm looking forward to taking LO on walks, too, or meeting up with DH for lunch sometimes while he's at work. And then of course, sleeping when I can... I keep saying to myself when I wake up in the middle of the night to flip, "I don't even know what tired means yet...."

Can you tell I've been thinking about this?? :)

  • Yep, I've definitely contemplated whether I'll go stir crazy or not.  I know at first there will be no time to be bored but anticipate making sure i get out on walks, etc. as time goes on but you can only go on so many walks in a day...??

  • I have heard this from many.. The first couple weeks you are crazy but once a schedule starts to form there is time for boredom.... I think it depends on the person too... Im not one to sit at home ever so I already have plans to meet DH for lunch at least once a week, his parents are retired so I will go over and visit them, my SIL runs a daycare (where Lo will go) so I plan on visiting her... and then I plan on spending a few long weekends at our cottage .... so that will at least give me a change and my grandparents live across the street so they will love having us there.

It may seem ambitious for some people but I am a always on the go person so I think it will work for me.

  • I really have no idea what kind of baby LO will be. If he's super laid back and doesn't require a lot of attention then I can see myself getting bored if I didn't have anything else to do. Luckily for me there are always more cleaning, errands, organizing, or projects that I can do.
  • YES! I've been worried about this.

I do NOT want to sit at home and wait for DH to get home. I need to keep busy during the day.

So I've saved certain nesting projects for that 3 weeks I wont be working like.... :

    - Washing all the newborn & 0-3 mo clothing

    - Organizing/putting together his nursery closet

    - Sewing a blanket that I have all materials for

    - Making & freezing meals

    - Packing hospital bag

Thats it so far but will keep adding to the list.
