2nd Trimester

all these MIL posts...

make me realize that I will one day be a MIL to some young girl. I hope she doesn't complain about me like this! Ick! Although right now I dont even want to think about my LO growing up.

Re: all these MIL posts...

  • I think about this too!  But I don't really know what would make for a great MIL...

  • There's a difference though, just don't be BSC and you will be fine! You'll be the MIL that seh loves! (I love my MIL, trust me, she can be BSC at times, frankly she scares me, but she's a great woman and I love her) seeee not every MIL is hated!

  • Hopefully you won't suggest naming what will be your grandchild "Ariel Roberto" if it is a girl....  Stick out tongue
  • Hopefully its teaching us not be a BSC MIL.  And maybe you are lucky and have a normal one.

  • I feel by having a crappy MIL that it has taught me the kind of MIL I want to be one day. I hate to think about my little Bean growing up, but I know it will happen and I hope I can be loving and supportive.
  • When I married DH, she vowed to me not be crazy.  Low and behold...

Maybe it's just my hormones right now.  But never in my life has a person annoyed me more.

  • thanks for the advice ladies! and I do have a good MIL, although she has her moments!

I was thinking about this the other night too!  But as long as he marries a woman who loves him as much or more than me, I'm hopeful I won't be the crazy annoying MIL!

  • It always makes me grateful, though it's more my SO's mother, she is not involved at all! Lives across the country. She sent me candy, work out video, and cute baby flip flops, I'm happy with that.
  • I think about this too and I think about the things that bother me.  I feel like they feel entitled to share their opinion and have you accept and follow their advice or opinion without question.  I want to remind myself that when I am a MIL that my kids are adults and can make decisions and mistakes because that's how they will learn.  I want to try not to force my opinion on them even if I know it will be a mistake from my own experience.  Of course I say that now...we'll see how I am in another 25 years.
  • I love my MIL! I've known her sense I was 15 so she really is like a second mom to me. I'm more worried about my kids marrying someone whose BSC. My BIL used to date this girl who was just INSANE. She would call him 24/7, she would hit him if he didn't do what she wanted, she was manipulative etc. And my MIL hated this girl and was so mean to her. She made my BIL feel like crap but she said he if ever broke up with her she'd kill herself. So if my kids date/marry BSC people I'll probably be a mean MIL. Lol.
  • My MIL loves to give her opinions all the time and she's not the easiest person to deal with, but sometimes I think that my mother probably does the same exact things, but because it's my mom it's somehow totally okay for her (which I realize isn't fair).  I should probably be glad to have a MIL that cares enough to give her opinion ;-)

  • I knew what I was in for when...

shortly after getting engaged and moving to the midwest from the east coast, to prepare for a new life here with my soon to be husband, I eventually met his mom.  The first time we were alone together we were in her car and drove out to do some errands- out of the blue she says to me- dumbfounded...

"I'll never understand why John didn't marry Holly."

It goes downhill from there.  I am so glad that 10 years into our marriage my husband finally decided that he had enough of her in his life and has completly cut off all connections.  Good riddance!

  • Well, there are a FEW posts on here about great MIL's.......

I accept the fact that I'll probably be one of those MIL's that drives my DIL crazy someday......My DH won't let me be TOO weird and obnoxious, I know that.

I just tell myself, "Who cares if you're a MIL that's a little weird......as long as it's not your kids saying that stuff about you, then you've done well."

  • some MILs have problems letting go of their sons and tend to hate their DILs because of it. my husband took care of is mom after his parents got divorced.  she thinks that he should still be doing that even though she is married.

i would hate for my DIL to hate me
