My cousin married into an Indian family and they do things big. She had over 250 ppl at her baby shower and it was hosted by a gazillion people. I was unable to attend but would have loved to see it.

I have not heard of it, I normally see 3-4, but again it depends on how many guests are invited (so the cost can be distributed to a reasonable amount to each person).
Wow...did they ask for an RSVP? I could see if it was a cultural thing and if there are 250 guests that would mean a lot of food. I have a friend from India...I'll have to ask her about that. She's very Americanized but didn't come here until 17 years ago so I'm sure many of their traditions are sitll followed. Her kids go to an Indian dance class for instance.
Well my friend is a white American, living in Texas. So maybe some sort of culture within her friendship group, who knows. I'm hoping for shrimp and lobster for dinner and a personal bulter to serve me at the baby shower
Seriously. They should have just said, hosted by: So-and-so's Sorority/Friends/Bible Study Group, etc... instead of LISTING 17 people. That's wacky as hell.
Re: 17 hosts/hostesses
Perhaps tehre is a cultural component to it, but in my world - thats just insane! 17 hostesses - how many people are invited?
For my shower, there were 4 people. There could have been 2 more, but luckily my friends all agreed that 4 is actually more than enough!

Cultural? Perhaps a group of friends who all decided to host together?
Seems crazy to me, though.
