So, what's for dinner this week?

What are us busy moms making for dinner this week?  I'd love some new ideas!  We're having:

Tuesday: Soup and sandwich night (or some variation of that) b/c DS has class at 6 pm

Wednesday: leftover roast from the freezer, sweet potatoes and salad

Thursday: breakfast for dinner

Fri/Sat: out

DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12

  • Last night I made Turkey Chili and crockpot chicken tacos and we will eat one of those two things tonight, tomorrow and Wed.  Thursday I'll probably pull meatballs out of the freezer b/c hubby works late.  Fri/Sat we eat out or order in.
  • I feel inadequate. I go home and poke around in the freezer every night. How do you all know what you will feel like eating on any given day?

  • It's funny -  your taste buds get set for what you know is coming that day.  At least mine do.

Planning meals for the week also helps with shopping. I used to buy a bunch of stuff at the grocery store then not use it because I didn't have a plan.  This way I shop for what we need that week and it helps keep the cost down as well.  We used to thaw meats then not prepare them. We threw so much money away!

  • We just started trying to plan weekly meals again after basically giving up a year ago.  Last week we made 3/5, so I'll call that a success, usually we're eating takeout every night :(

    Mon: crockpot mac & cheese

Tues: chicken nuggets (DH makes these, so contingent on him not getting stuck at work)

Weds/Thurs: my dad is coming through town one of these nights on business so we'll take him out to dinner.  The other night we'll do crockpot chicken enchilada chili

    Friday: Leftovers

    Saturday: go out

    Sunday: ?

But I'm on transplant call all this week anyway so I can be called in anytime, which is why all my meals are crockpot and not anything that requires significant prep.

We make a list of 4 or 5 dinners, shop for them on the weekend, and then pick one each night.  If we didn't do this it wouldn't matter what we felt like eating because the kitchen would be full of random crap!
