You will drive yourself crazy if you don't leave your house for a week or more. I ran errands up to the day DS was born at 40 1/2 weeks. Nothing is going to happen in a 20 min run to the store. Drive 2 hours? No - not a good idea, but you can go about your normal business. Lots of women go to work until the very end.
my dh gave me the idea that i will be in target when my water breaks and I have to call an ambulance! hey, at least i will be in my favorite place when it happens!

LOL. my friend's water broke at home and she drove herself the the hosp. her DH was at work over an hour away
I was 39 weeks as of last Friday. Last week we went out to dinner with friends every other night, 3 nights total. It was the Freedom Blitz 2010. I still plan on going out and running errands until I feel something start (even though my OB thought I'd probably have the baby this past weekend). Today I think I'm going to the grocery store and maybe Ikea.

I went to 42 weeks last time and was running around the whole week before my induction trying to walk myself into labor. The shock value of being out that overdue is actually kind of fun. When you tell people you're 11 days overdue their eyes get really big and they hold out their hands like they're going to have to catch the baby.

Why would you need to call an ambulance because your water breaks? If your water breaks, you will calmly inform Target management, call your husband, drive yourself home, call your OB and start getting your stuff ready to go to the hospital. You will not need to call an ambulance. My mom's water broke in the grocery store with my brother. She did not need emergency medical treatment.
Unless you're on bedrest, you're probably fine. I'm 40 weeks - went out to dinner last night; driving myself around doing errands today. I'd go crazy if I just sat in the house.

Today is my due date and I plan on heading to the mall for lunch with my mom and to do some walking to get this baby out! I wouldn't go far from home, but I think you are fine to be out and about. I worked until Friday and was never worried.

Well, I'm planning to work up until my due date, so I think a 10 minute drive to the store will be fine.
Your husband sounds like my students. They are afraid I am going to go into labor in class and the baby is going to just pop right out. I keep trying to tell them that labor lasts a LONG TIME... if I go into labor at school, I will, you know, go to the hospital. I don't think you need to worry about a Target employee delivering your child.
i guess this being my 1st, everyone is worrying about me being out alone and going into labor, i didn't think it was a big deal since I wouldn't be going far anyway
I'm not 39 weeks yet, but I am working up until the day I go into labor & have full intentions of doing my normal activities (shopping, etc) until then. I will go stir crazy if I sit at home for a week or more!
I was due last week. This weekend all I did was run errands and walk around the mall hoping to speed this process up. I'm at work 45 minutes from my home/hospital right now.
I'm super pregnant, I don't have the plague. Plus, if I sit at home, I feel like I should be doing something productive. And it's much easier to fake that at work than at home!

my ob told me that if my water breaks, to go in immediately. don't wait. my dh works 1.5 hours away and no way in hell am i driving myself to the hospital. with DD1, the contractions came on so suddenly and so hard, i'd probably wind up in a car accident if I drove. i will definitely be calling an ambulance if DH is at work (mainly for transport. DH is a paramedic and transports women in labor all the time.)

In that case, I'd have a friend or family member drive me to the hospital, or maybe even take a taxi...it's a lot cheaper than an ambulance, and leaves that ambulance open for someone who really needs it.
I ran a 5k Turkey Trot a couple days past my due date last time and worked right up until the day before I delivered (10 days overdue), so, yeah, I think it's silly to avoid running errands.

I wouldn't have been able to drive through the pain of contractions after my water broke last time either, but I agree that I'd call a friend or family member to drive me to the hospital before calling an ambulance.

i leave pretty much only for work. I have a DD who is 4 1/2 and a DD who just turned 13 months. I can't handle the idea of going into labor or having my water break with two kids in tow. Since if i;m not at work they are always with me, we won't be going many places unless my SO or mom can go with us.
Re: 39-40wkers, are you not going out anymore
Sorry to break the news - you are being ridiculous.... LOL
Getting up and about can help bring on labor too (walking that is) - so go ahead. Run your errands.

Seriously? You're fine.

that's too funny!
You are pregnant, not a prisoner! Plus lots of babies don't come until 41+ weeks.

I have 8 days until my EDD and I was at the X - Games last night.
I have been every year since I moved to Colorado so I couldn't miss it.
