Question about boxes for strollers, pack n plays, bouncers etc..

I have an issue w/ sometimes being a pack rat and holding on to things I really do not need. DH and I finally decided to open up the boxes for the pack n play, travel system, travel swing, bouncer and high chair just in case anything had missing pieces or had a defect. Fortunately everything was just fine but now I'm having a battle with myself because I'm not sure if I should be holding on to the boxes or just discarding them. I don't want to hold on to them if I do not have to but I am scared to throw them away and then find that I needed them....should I keep them or get rid of them? TIA for your advice!

Re: Question about boxes for strollers, pack n plays, bouncers etc..

  • Start getting into good habits... throw them out.  Better now than to continue being a pack rat when LO is here...

  • i threw everything away b/c i hate clutter!!!  i found that anything i had a problem with, i called the manufacturer's customer service number and they didn't care if we had the box or not. fyi: the general warranty by the manufacturing company is generally a year even if crappy bru or target's return policy has expired.  also if this is your first child, you'll probably using some items for the first time waaaaay after the 90 day return policy (i.e. high chair) so the stores won't take an item back anyway and i find that stores are the only places that care about the boxes.

  • We will be throwing everything out. We just don't have room for all the boxes. Considering we've already returned a travel system to BRU without the box, I don't see us needing them down the line either.

  • The only box we kept was for the travel system. We've been storing the infant carrier and our two bases in there since DS has been in his convertable seat.

Since the pack n play came with a bag to store it in, that box go trashed.

The bouncer isn't that big, we stored that in a big trash bag in the basement so water couldn't get to it. This way we didn't have to take the frame apart either.

  • DS is almost 2 years and never once have I even thought about the boxes that all that stuff came in.  Recycle them!!!

  • I'm going to cut out the upc codes (the bar thingies ) and put the with the warranties in a safe place
  • We looked up a cardboard recycling place close by and took everything there. I was getting annoyed with the clutter.
  • I'm keeping mine in the basement until we use each item enough that we know it won't be returned immediately. Luckily I have room to store them. If I didn't, I'd recycle them.
  • I am weird, but I was mad that we didn't save the boxes for our jumperoos, bouncers, swings, etc.  The only boxes I didn't care we threw out were for the stroller and pnp.  But the others I wish we had all saved, because I hated then buying plastic bins (or using garbage bags) to store everything.  We now save our boxes.  Plus, I think some things will be easier for resale with a box.
  • I kept all the boxes in storage in our basement. What a waste of time and space. This summer (DD was 18 months) I finally went through them and threw them away. The earlier poster was exactly right about most things you won't even use until after you can't return it anyway. For your own sanity I suggest getting rid of them now :o)
  • Thank you ladies...I really appreciate your input and advice
  • We actually use the boxes for the bouncers, the swing, and many of the large toys... We do not use the boxes for the PNPs, high chairs, or the strollers so we got rid of those. We have a lot of dead storage and we are planning on 4 kids so we have to plan our storage carefully. The boxes the items came in are usually the most efficient way of storing them once they are not in use... Just my opinion.

  • I'm the same way.  But I ditched the boxes for the pack and play, highchair and travel system because, really, I'll never use them again.  They're so much clunkier than the stuff that's actually in them.

After DD was done, we cleaned everything super well and put them in clear trash bags to keep them sort of clean since we were storing them in the garage.

Other, smaller stuff, I throw back in the box.  Easier to keep neat and easier to sell later on if we want.

  • We threw out all of the boxes as we opened them.  We don't have the space to hold them and I couldn't stand the clutter.  Make sure to save all of the manuals/warranties/etc. in a safe place, but get rid of the rest of it.

  • I would throw them out. There's no need to keep them at this point.
  • If you have gotten any of those items from Target I would keep the boxes, to make the returning of an item (if needed) easier on yourself.

  • Throw away the box but keep the instructions.
