Carseat ??

Ok, so my FIL has a membership to consumer reports.  According to them the Chicco Key Fit carseat ranks #1 in safety.  The cheapest I have found it is 170.99 at target + 59.99 for an additional base (we will need this).  I have found several others for 100.00 and less but he says they rank low (costco, graco and etc) in safety.  It seems quite pricy but safety comes first for me.  Does anyone know of any other website that ranks safety on carseats??

Thanks!

  • I think that is your most reliable source.

Once again I will say try ebay or amazon.com.. maybe you can get a good deal.

  • Be careful with used carseats though - even if they were in a small accident, it could weaken the effectiveness of the carseat...that said, the base would probably be ok...

If you can skimp financially on some other things - I personally feel spending a bit more for a carseat is worth it...

  • Have you checked out Baby Bargains?  They have a good rating scale based on safety and cost as well as lots of other info!

  • When I researched them 2 1/2 yrs ago, there were quite a few that were ranked safest, Graco SnugRide and Seat Seat were up there as well.

We went with the safe seat. Im not sure how much it is individually, we got it as a travel system. The most expensive seat isnt always the only safe seat there.

  • Consumer reports isn't always the best way to go.   At one point, the Graco Snugride ranked #1 on that site.  I wouldn't put too much worth into it.    All carseats are safe, so get one that is in your price range.   I would save the money for a good convertible with convenient features, high height/weight limits, and ease of use and get an infant seat that is more affordable, especially because you don't use them nearly as long.   What makes a car seat safe is the proper use of it.
  • Here is a site that have more reliable information than consumer reports regarding carseat safety:
