Advice to start labor naturally?

I'm only 38 weeks, but my ob told me at my weekly visit on Friday that the practice induces at 41 weeks if you still haven't given birth by then. Is this normal?

I want this little guy to come out sometime after 40 weeks but before 41 weeks, on his own. I'm hoping for a med-free birth and do NOT want to be induced. I know I'm early to the party here, but any advice for bringing on labor naturally? What works??

  • Well, the OWT are sex, spicy food, castor oil, walking etc.

My friend swears by doing steps. She was tired of being pg and went to a high school and 'quick stepped' up and down the flights of stairs for a few hours... and went into labor that night.

  • So far nothing for me. I will be 39 weeks tomarrow and I learned that this baby is not coming until she wants toCrying Eight days left, I hope! My ob wants to talk about induction at my 40 week appointment.

  • I have heard nipple stimulation can release hormones that may help labor start. Don't know if there is any truth to it though.
  • I think walking is the only thing that could help.Everything else, I've heard is just a bunch of BS.
  • Raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil are also meant to work as is lots of walking.

  • Nothing will work unless your LO is ready to come out. I have tried everything Crying
  • My understanding is that nothing will work unless your body is already ready and by then it probably will happen soon without all this stuff.

    Good luck!

  • A friend of mine was told by her midwife (who is now MY midwife) that you should get on your hands and knees (head down) and rock side to side.

She was 6 days overdue with no progression, tried it for a few hours, and went into labor that night.?

  • Keep in mind that just because your doctor's practice wants to induce at 41 weeks, it's still YOUR choice.

  • I've tried all the OWT including: Eating a whole Pineapple, Walking for hours, Walking up and down stairs, eating the Labor Salad at a place here called Ciaoti, Eating tons of spicy foods, walking in the full moon, and sex. Nothing has worked, so I think i'm going to go with the only thing that works to jump start labor is your body being ready. Stick out tongue

I was going to say this exactly. Unless there is a medical reason for you to be induced before 42 weeks, you can say no. With my docs, it's day 15 past due which is 42w1d.
