Savannah only uses the straw sippy. I do have other ones (the nuby and playtex ones for water), but she doesn't get nearly as much out of them.
I knew the straw ones worked well b/c when we were at a restaurant I just tried her drinking my water out of a straw and she did great!
I have heard that the straw sippies are the best kind - for teeth and speech. HTH!
GreenEyesinNC:He doesn't naturally know to close his lips around it and suck... anyone else have this problem? I'm not sure how to teach him... he just kind of licks it and bites it like it's a toy because it is so small compared to a nipple on a bottle...
Just keep offering it. That's how Allie was at first... but she learned how to suck from it.

We were also told a straw sippy would help strenghten Eli's oral muscles. We like the Playtex sippies the best. I don't recommend the Nuby sippies, they're very hard to drink from. What worked for us was giving him a juice box with a straw, and then when he put his mouth around the straw, I gave it a little squeeze so juice would come out the top. Then he would suck on the liquid coming out, in turn sucking more liquid out. That's how we taught Eli to drink from a straw, and I had been trying everything at that point and nothing worked. That said, Eli did not drink from a sippy at all until 11 months, even though I constantly offered him one months before that.
