Juicing Fad or Fabulous?

Hi ladies,

  1. Anyone have good juicing recipes that are low in sugar?
  2. Have you juiced before or during pregnancy?

I've started juicing to get myself in great health for TTC. Yesterday I took all the vegetables from my fridge and ran them through the jack lalanne juicer, expecting it to taste incredible!  Well blaaaa I forced it down but it smelled/tasted skunky.

Here is my Skunk Drink: Do yourself a favor and avoid this combination. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

  • 2 apples, 2 peppers, 3 carrots, 1 lemon, 2 celery stalks, 2 cucumbers.

Re: Juicing Fad or Fabulous?

  • I have had only 1 glass of juice my entire pregnancy. The citrus makes me want to gag.
  • I have the same juicer...and yes, I have juiced during pregnancy....well..during this nice 2 week period between no morning sickness and no horrible acid reflux.  AVOID putting oranges, lemons and grapefruits in before the peel has been removed.  And ...yeah...you have to be careful about what you put in together..because it doesnt all taste great.  Follow the recipe guide that came with the juicer.  My fav so far is one red apple, one green apple and a cup of grapes......YUM.

  • Heres the problem with juicing. You get all the added calories with none of the hunger satisfaction. Just eat more fruit and vegetables.

Yes, and perhaps more importantly you lose out on all the fiber you're essentially pulling out of those fruits and vegetables.

If you want to "cleanse" and get healthy for TTC, drink tons of water and eats lots of fiber-rich foods, including fruits and vegetables.  Opt for organic when it comes to those items that absorb the most pesticides and herbicides (like grapes, berries, apples, peaches, etc).  Take prenatals and omega-3's from algae sources rather than fish.  If you really want to drink your nutrients, make smoothies instead of just juice. Good luck!
