1st Trimester

What do you eat with m/s?

I have 24/7 morning sickness.  No vomiting but sometimes I wish I would.  I'm hungry but can't decide what would be good... and it seems like after I eat I feel worse.

What are you eating (especially if you can relate to the above)?

Re: What do you eat with m/s?

  • Applesauce, yogurt, PB&J, toast w/ cream cheese, cottage cheese, fries, bananas, Bonbel cheese, oranges.

  • I've been lucky as far as m/s is concerned. My friend gave me advice when I was feeling a bit nauseated... She told me bananas were good for her, because if you do end up throwing up, it's soft, and apparently covers the taste of bile... :S (I don' t know this personally, but she swore by it through both of her pregnancies, and she had some of the worst m/s ever.)

Good luck finding something for your belly.

  • Protein is supposed to help with feeling gross. I liked hard-boiled eggs when I was pg with DS, hummus, stuff like that. I also swore by ginger tablets and Altoids to keep the sick feelings at bay. hth

  • For me, I find something vinegar-based or sour helps.  I eat a lot of pickles, or salad just covered in red wine vinegar instead of dressing, lemonades, stuff like that.  It sounds counter-intuitive when you are sick to your stomach, but it works for me and is usually the only thing I can stand the thought of.  I'm like you -- nauseous all the time and I do feel worse when I eat, or when I don't.  Can't win!

  • whatever sounds good.

And trying to eat small amounts, really often tends to help.

(eta, I will agree that things that don't taste *that* bad coming back up are a good start.  Fruit cocktail falls into that category :-)

  • Goldfish, applesauce, crackers, cereal, toast, lemonade . . .

Basically, when I feel nauseous, I try to eat something bland that does not have a strong smell.  Good luck!

  • bagels with plain cream cheese, dry cereal, bananas, yogurt

If you are getting sick when you take your prenatal vitamins, it helps me to take it with a glass of chocolate milk. Sounds nasty, I know, but so far it has worked.

  • I eat dry cereal when I feel ill. Don't ever let your tummy go completely empty, that's when it feel bad. I've found eating fruit (oranges, bananas, grapes) helps alot. If I eat TOO much I feel bad too. Do 6 small meals, that's really helping me. Good luck!

  • I usually eat pretzels or pickles. I oranges are really good for nausea. That's what they tell us to eat when we are on an EMS call. I also love my preggie pops! YOu can get them at Destination Maternity. They are the best for m/s!

  • Anything Sour, gingerale, toast, ritz crackers, dry cereal. . . the blander the better and lots of liquids.  It doesnt last forever!
  • If you like Salt and Vinegar chips, try those. Just suck on a couple. They seemed to help me, and it's recommended by a friend who is a nurse. HTH!
