Severe morning sickness...

Hey Ladies,

I have been experiencing extreme morning sickness for the past couple of days.  I have probably thrown up around 10 times already today.  I called my doctor and she called in a prescription for a rectal suppository that I am to take every 6 hours.  I am miserable... if the vomiting doesn't stop, I have to go to the ER.

Has anyone had this experience and can you offer any tips on keeping food down? Also, has anyone had success with a suppository?

  • I'm so sorry! Mine never got that bad, I really hope that they work for you!!
  • I was put on the Suppositories when I was about 13.5 weeks because the neasuea from frist tri. turned into vomitting a million times a day as soon as I hit second. The suppositories worked for me for about 4 week. In the first 2 weeks I was using them all the time and in the last 2 I only needed them every once in a while. But then it got to the point where they just stopped working all together so they put me on a pill combined with the suppository. Good thing is, when you use then, they work INSTANTLY. Good luck with the sickness, I know how you feel.

  • Thanks :) I am leaving to pick up the prescription right now... hopefully I can relax now
  • Update: It has been 30 minutes since I took the suppository.  My stomach is finally settling down.  Thank God!!! I am looking forward to eating in the next couple hours.  I am suppose to start with some sprite an hour after taking the medicine and take it slowly.
  • I have no experience with the suppositories, but I am on Zofran.  I hope you stay feeling better :-)  Good Luck!

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this but I have been in your shoes.  From week 6-8 I threw up on average 12 times a day.  There was this one day that I quit counting after #15.  IT WAS

  • I have heard good things about zofran.  I am going in for my first appointment Feb 8th, and I might ask my doctor about this as well.  The suppository seems to have worked.  I was able to eat some chicken noodle soup for dinner.  This is my first pregnancy, and I am hoping that my body will start to adjust and I will get used to the hormones.

I think I am super sensitive to hormones anyway.  When I was on the bcp i could only stand to take a pill with a super low dose of hormones because everything else made me nauseous.
