To renew or not to renew?

My husband and I decided that this would be the year we have our first vow renewal. Then I got pregnant. Smile  With our tax return we are still going to trade in and upgrade our rings, and my friend mentioned how nice it would be to still do the renewal with the new rings, which is what I wanted to begin with. Would it be silly to renew our vows with a big baby bump? Is it too late to try and put something together? I love the idea, but I wonder if we should wait until next year. And of course, where do you get a pregnancy wedding dress?

Re: To renew or not to renew?

  • I don't think it's a bad idea. I've seen pg wedding dresses at David's Bridal before.

  • I think it would be wonderful to still do it. I mean...you're already married so you don't really need to worry about the whole baby bump thing (not getting controversial here...just wanted to mention that in case it bothers you). I second David's Bridal for the wedding dress. I say do it...you two should celebrate the renewed love for each other and the upgrading of rings. I hope to someday renew my vows with DH.
  • I am against vow renewals in general (maybe OK at 25 years), so I say no vow renewal.

How long have you been married?

  • Vow renewals are NMS, especially ones that go for the whole wedding dress, reception and gifts.  Just sounds kind of AW to me. Maybe at 25 years.

  • Vow renewals before 25 years are just strange, imo.

  • personally?  i would put the money towards baby.  new rings and dresses and such seem like a waste

for you?  do what you want.  :)  it's your marriage!

  • Well, we were engaged for 26 days when we got married. It was a quick but beautiful wedding that we only spent $600 on (including the dress) because we did everything ourselves. We flew out to Utah where my family is for the wedding and NONE of our friends or family from here were able to make it there because of the time and money issues. So we always said we were going to do it again here in GA. I don't really want a bigger wedding or anything, but my friends who would have been bridesmaid would be able to, his parents would be there this time, and we had a rough year we'd like to celebrate getting through. LOL. This will be our 8th anniversary, to answer your question. So I feel like our reasons for having wanted it are good. It would be another small wedding, but we could use the money for baby things. Though we still have most things from the other two and lots of hand me downs from relatives. So there are reasons to do it, and reasons not to.

ditto, even if they are done because you decided to have a quick wedding. Then its not so much a vow renewal as a party do over.
