this is generally how I make my spaghetti sauce... although I'm sure I don't do it exactly the same way every time.
saute 2 diced yellow onions for a few minutes in olive oil, adding salt. add about 2 cloves minced garlic and saute for a couple more minutes. add one large can whole peeled tomatoes (I think cento brand tastes best). break tomatoes up with spatula. add about 1/2-1 tbsp dried parsley and oregano or basil and stir. simmer while pasta cooks, and season w salt/pepper.
I also add other veggies, depending on what I have that day. for me the key is the sauteed onion and the good tomatoes!

I make mine just like that, but I usually add a little red wine with mine. I just like the flavor it gives.
