Grossed out!

So, J takes a bath every night.  I had a bunch of rubber squirt toys and she loves to play with them.  She sucks on them constantly while bathing, we squirt them, she laughs, etc.  After bath time, I squirt them dry and put them away.

Last night, I squirt a toy at her and this black MOLD come out I continue to squirt cause I thought it was a fluke and pieces kept flying out.  Needless to say, bath time was cut short, toys were promptly thrown away and J had a new bath sans toys.

Ugh - I felt so awful, I never thought of it but obviously mold can and will grow in those nasty toys.

Re: Grossed out!

  • OH NO! I think you can put those toys in some bleach and rinse them really good and the mold will go away. I have the same things, I am going to be so mad if they get mold! UGH!!!
  • Honestly, I had never even thought of that! Looks like ours are getting dumped tonight!

I have a gross story like that too. For some reason when DH and I would put DS sippy cups in the dishwasher the thought to take the rubber piece out of the top never crossed our minds. After him using them for about a month it dawned on me to take them out. Yeah, the entire thing was COVERED in mold, and the kid had been drinking out of it for a month. I won mother of the year that day!

  • according to my geeky science doctor Davez, he says it's harmless. In fact, I can hear those two laughing hysterically some nights...

    Duck poop!   ppttttttttttbbbbttttttttt   Duck poop!

the bleach soak helps. but I just replace them once in a while, and ask them to poop the ducks while they pull the plug. lol.

  • Uhhh ... yeah.  We had that happen.  I threw away every bath toy that could hold water.  Soooo nasty.

I hope so.  She has been getting hives laetly and I can't pin point what is causing her histimine levels to rise.  Of course, my mind goes crazy and now thinks the mold could have been causing them...we will not use them for a while and see if it helps.

  • LOL yeah we have 'fish poop' in our tub at times. I make sure to squeeze them all out and I try to soak them in cleaner every so often.

The sippy cups are the worst, especially the ones that aren't 1 solid piece (ie gerber). Mold will eventually grow in the bottom colored part that you CANNOT clean. It's just a plot to get me to buy more cups.
