Ok I broke down

and bought the ferning ovulation microscope.

It didn't seem as gross to me once I realized you can put it in the dishwasher.

I don't intend to rely solely on it but rather use it in conjunction with my monitor. I guess 2 positive results instead of one will make my warped brain feel better.

Does anyone else use it?

Why does it seem gross? It's saliva.

I use one of my classroom microscopes and blank slides. The slides are easy to wash off every day so I can use them again.

That said I haven't done it for a while because it just seemed like something else extra to do. I found that I showed full ferning a couple days before I was actually at my most fertile.

I used it for a couple of cycles.  I had the kind with the slides.  It wasn't gross at all.  I stopped using it because my cycles are so fuckked up that I was spitting every damn day for 40+ days at a time.  And I couldn't interpret the results accurately enough to predict shiit.

well i guess it prob isn't gross, but because the first time i ever saw one was at the dr office yesterday and this lady whipped it out of her purse and literally just SPIT onto it, I was kind of taken back and grossed out. 
You know, like when you throw up after you eat bad seafood and then seafood grosses you out for awhile?
