Lately, Cal's been waking up @ 4am and after several attempts to get him back to sleep he starts screaming & crying. The only thing that will calm him is if we cradle him in our arms and ideally, for me to nurse him. He sleeps fine up until that point and he doesn't seem ready to get up (you know how you can just tell)...he just wants to go back to sleep, but only in our arms. Is this an attachment thing going on? The routine is for him to come into our bed whenever he wakes up, but lying next to us isn't even cutting it. He must be held. Which obviously makes it difficult for US to go back to sleep. I hope this is a short-lived phase!!
Re: 4am wakeup + screaming @ 13.5 months?
could be. we only know of 3 teeth and he will not allow us to check for more. i thought of teething, but why is he fine up until 4am? that just doesn't make sense to me.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

We are going through the same thing right now. But Paige is waking up a couple times from bed time to that 3-4am wake up. And she's crying big time like in pain.
I do think it's teething b/c she also has had a runny nose for over a week now.
Poor babies....
I agree with the teething/molars thing...
Why fine until 4 am? Maybe 4am is a regular time he rouses in his sleep and now he's noticing pain and it gets him worked up. He may have teething pain in the day but is distracted enough to let it go.
I generally stir around 2 am... no reason.. usually go right back to sleep unless I'm really cold/hot or have to go to the bathroom, then I wake all the way for real.

Good point. The last time he was teething he woke up incessantly throughout the night, so that's what I'm comparing this to. But that was a few months ago and I suppose every teething experience can be different from the last!
