I've been having attacks ever since Gwen was born and am having my gallbladder removed on Friday. Anyone have this done? Any tips or advice on how to eat or deal with the surgery?
Thanks.

Almost every woman in my family has had their gallbladder taken out and the recovery time was pretty quick, within a few days. All I know is that you need to stay away from fried foods, as well as those that are high in fat. Good luck on Friday!
It really wasn't too bad of surgery, but you will definitely want some help at home with the baby for about a week afterwards. The hardest part, for me, was dealing with the incision through the muscles in the upper abdomen. It made sitting up and moving quickly difficult for a few days. I had my surgery on a Saturday and went back to work on Thursday, but I'd probably have been better served to stay out all week. However, I was super bloated from the gas afterwards, too.
Eating.. I played it by ear. I tried not to eat too fatty following it until I knew when I could handle. I really have NO trouble unless I eat something super super fattening or greasy... and I've actually lost any taste I had for greasy food. Really fattening food has a tendency to, uh... go right through me. But otherwise, no real problems.
Some people do have trouble digesting certain things (like spicy foods) afterwards, but I think it will really depend on the person. I haven't had any trouble.
I did, and I had a D&E at the same time. I'm sorry, but my recovery time wasn't just 3 days, I was in pretty bad pain for at least a week. Take the meds around the clock. I think they said only liquids for 24 hours, then whatever you can eat without it hurting or being uncomfortable afterward. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, the pain is AWFUL. But you will have relief after!!
I am having attacks too...I am going to have to have it out eventually...and I sure don't want to.
I'm still nursing, so I'm trying to put it off as long as possible. I've told my husband that if I have one more attack, I'll be headed to the surgeon to get it yanked, breastfeeding or no breastfeeding.
I feel for you...the pain of a gallbladder attack I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy...its awful...
Had mine out 9 years ago. be sure to avoid fried or lots of sugary foods and you should be fine. if they are doing laperscopically (sp?) your recovery should be no more than a week. I was in the hospital for one night and then at home taking it easy for the next week.

Oh, I'll also say my pain wasn't bad... I think I have a high threshold, though. The pain I had wasn't sharp, it was more dull.. I can handle that and would rather have a little pain than feel loopy from codeine!
I generally hate the way painkillers make me feel, so I only took the prescription stuff on the way out the door since I had to ride in the back of my parents SUV home... after that, I just took Advil and I was fine.
Yup, I'd say for about a month after, it took my body soem time to adjust to eating certain foods. But it wasn't anything too traumatic or anything. Just stay close to a bathroom until your body adjusts.
I too had a very easy experience. I had mine out on a Friday, was on a plane by Sunday. No need for pain killers beyond Tylenol.

I had mine out 16 years ago. They don't tell you one of the side effects is that you can't eat greasy/fatty/spicy foods afterwards b/c it literally makes you RUN to the bathroom. I was on medicine for a while, this nasy powder - cholestramine but I've been off of it for years and for the most part able to eat what I want. GL!

I had mine out almost 10 years ago.

I had mine taken out after DS1 was born. Eating for me did not change after. Immediately (a few days) after surgery, soup felt good to eat.
Take the pain meds! I felt fine at the hospital, but later that evening I was quite uncomfortable.
You will be feeling much better within about 2 weeks, and NO MORE ATTACKS!!!
I do at times however have phantom pains... They are not as bad, and not as long. Are you going to R.C. to have it done?
