New Teacher missed 103 Fever

DH just picked up DS from daycare. A new teachers started today. Both of DS's regular teachers are leaving, so i'm guessing this was a transition day with the new girl.

Anyway..DH called me ASAP because he said that DS was VISIBLY sick and super hot. He got him home and he had a 103+ fever. It' s concerning to us because DS has had a Febrile Seizure before adn we don't want to relive this.

New teacher told DH that our son had a WONDERFUL DAY!! No problems!

So I guess I should give her the BOD because it's her first day and she doesn't know DS's personality yet but wouldn't you think she could feel his blazing little body?

Should I say something or move on and wait for something else to "happen"?

Re: New Teacher missed 103 Fever

  • i would say something given the fact that he has had a febrile seizure with a fever.  that is something the dcp (all his teachers) should know.

  • also wanted to say that when we picked Carson up from daycare once he had a 103 fever.  dcp noticed he was warm and took his temp but it did not register (under the arm) but he became visibly upset and clingy right around 4ish so they did not call b/c they know we would be there soon.  when i got him home is was 103 rectally.

his teacher felt soooooooo awful when i told her, almost tears and all i did was tell her.  i also let her know how he gets when he gets fevers and that he spikes high fevers really quick.  his one cheek will get red along with his one ear on the same side and his trunk will feel hot.  also, he can run around with a 101 almost 102 fever and act normal and the minute he gets to 103 he stops dead in his tracks and cries.

but they did not know any of that, i had to tell them.

for your information.  i don't think they did anything wrong really.  fevers can come on fast and strong.  also, they keep it really warm (imo) in Carson's class room with the  younger kids so he always feels a little warm when i pick him up.

but with the febrile seizures i would be sure to tell the director and all the teachers.  don't rely on one teacher telling the rest.  that is really important imo.

This.  Even if she wasn't told about the seizures, she should be able to recognize a fever.  Is she the only one in the room?
