Blood work question!

Sorry, I am sure that this has been asked before, but I have researched and I cannot find it anywhere!

I got my BFP on Saturday and on Monday (yesterday) I had my blood drawn for progesterone and HCG levels.  I know that my doctor's office has the results (they told me they would).  On some paperwork they gave me it explicitly states, "do not call the office about your bloodwork".

I am dying to know if my levels are where they should be.  Do I obey the rules and not call?  Wait a few days?  What would you do, and what is your doctor's office policy?  TIA

Re: Blood work question!

  • I would not obey the rules.  I would call and ask and play dumb like I didn't read it.  My doctors office does not have any rules regarding calling for bloodwork results.  That is silly.

  • my doctor doesnt' do blood work that early unless there is a risk reason, so i can't help you.  w/ ds they didn't do my bloodwork until 8 or 9 weeks.
  • They asked you not to call, but can you just so happen to be in the area and drop by???
  • When I get my bloodwork they call that day hours later and THAT drives me nuts. I just get real anxious and need to know its all okay.

I can't imagine how you're feeling! I might have to call like the someone else said and if they say something act like you didn't know or apopogize!

    You poor thing.

  • I personally wouldn't call.  They will call you if they need something.  Our physicians office sends out the results in the mail the same day so you might get a copy of your results in a day or so.

  • I don't know what to do!!!  I think that just this once, since it's my first blood test, I'll bug them.  They'll probably talk crap on me, but oh well!  It's stressing me out!  If they do mail it out, in the same time it takes them to fold the paper, address, lick and stamp the envelope they could've just called me!  It doesn't make any sense!

Once I know my levels are good I won't bother them for the rest of the bloodwork.  *sigh*  Thanks ladies!

Or I may do this....I was in the neighborhood, so.....

That may be better than calling!

  • I would call.  The medical field is still a service industry.  You are the customer.  You also have a legal right to your medical information.  I'm sorry if they feel too busy to look at your chart.  My OB's office lets me leave a voicemail for the nurse and she always calls me back the same day whether it's about test result or a general question.
  • Oh I would so call. I get that they are probably busy but they are still a business and you have a right to know what is going on with your results.

  • I can look mine up online but as I see my glucose test was 146 I don't know what to think of that yet.  If it is bad, they call and if not they send me a letter with an explanation of the tests.

I personally would call.  Although do you know if they get their bloodwork back the next day?  Might want to wait until tomorrow.

  • I personally wouldn't call.  Most places that have the do not call policy have other policies that ensure that patients get their results in a timely fashion (ie. mail). Often, busy offices find that it IS actually much faster to mail results than picking up the phone to call each lab they get.  It takes 30 seconds to mail, but most of the time takes several minutes to call each patient.

That being said, if you just can't wait or the no news is good news doesn't work for you. Avoid just showing up at the office. You may have to wait quite a period of time and they will most likely be much more unhappy than just a phone call.

Want to add though, that I am a nurse (and probably biased) and I usually try not to pester as know what it's like to have numerous unnessary phone calls.
