If you already have a blender of some sort, it's really not needed. I'm all for fun baby things, but this is one even I passed on!
ETA: If you do have a blender/magic bullet/food processor, try to make some baby food now before you buy it. Maybe make some apples or peaches - they are pretty easy to get pureed. Green beans and peas are harder to get super soft, but probably something you have in the house.
i'm totally a sucker and this thing does the steaming and pureeing...*sigh* i NEED to know if it's all it seems to be cracked up to be before i make the investment! BLE-thanks, i think i will try a batch in the blender first to see how i like it.

Check out wholesomebabyfood.com for how to cook different foods. I hardly steamed anything. I baked most things... it comes out sooo soft and hardly takes any effort to puree. I even boiled the apples for 15 minutes and got them really soft. Good luck!
I never got one with my older daughter because it was easy enough to steam it and puree it myself. I'm glad I never bothered because DD2 never took to purees and we've skipped straight to small, soft pieces of table food for her.
My sister bought me 2 packs of set of 4 spoons and the container that you can freeze your homeade food and LOVE them both. The spoons are so soft and worth every penny (package of 4 spoons cost $19.99 US plus taxes). I did consider purchasing the babycook but opted out for the Bamix hand blender which can be used for pureeing everything and will save you $30 in the long run. Besides the Babycook is only good for baby portions. You will probably not use this past the 10 month.
BTW everything including the Bamix can be purchased at Williams-Sonoma.
We have it and love it. I probably wouldn't have gotten it for myself, but it was a gift. Yes, it does exactly what it says. The longest it takes to make anything is 15 minutes, some take much less. That includes steaming and pureeing. Sweet potatoes, for example, take ~45 minutes in the oven, then you have to puree. They steamed and pureed in the baby cook in 15 minutes. Plus, steaming preserves more of the nutrients than baking or boiling. With it, I don't mind making small amounts of things because it really only takes pushing 2 buttons and I only have 1 thing to clean. But if I wanted to make a bunch, I could.

I have one and I like that you can steam and puree in the same container. What I don't like is that it does really small batches ... so if you're making a lot in one sitting, it ends up taking more time. Steam, puree, empty. Steam, puree, empty...

My mom got one for me as a gift. I love it! But you can easily make food with just a food processor. I like that it's only one thing to clean instead of two

i wouldn't waste my money on it.. a blender will work just fine. steam/boil your veggies and puree.. its super simple.. add a little water to thin out.

Your LO is a cutie pie!!!
I use a steamer and a food processor. It is soooo easy. You can also make food in bulk.
this. I didn't buy any thing special and just used the things I already owned. I did buy new ice cube trays though.
thank you, likewise!
