Babies: 9 - 12 Months

So much vomit! (sorry, long)

For the last few nights, I have no idea what is going on.  One, or both, of the girls has vomitted.  They will be sound asleep, wake up, cough a couple of time, and vomit lots.  We have never changed the sheets so many times.

Nothing has changed in their diets or routine, and it only happens at night.  One of the girls just finished a round of amoxi for a double ear infection.  The other has been on amoxi for a week for pneumonia.  I don't think it is the amoxi since this has only been happening for a few days.  I also don't think it is a stomach bug since, like I said it is only happening at night when they are sleeping.

I have a few wonders.  I am going to call the dr in the morning and talk to her about it too.  But, I am wondering if we are feeding them too much at the end of the day.  At 5:00, they eat solids (usually 4-7 ounces each), then have a 4 ounce bottle.  This is all normally in their systems by 530.  Then at 7 they have a 6 ounce bottle with 3 tbsp of rice cereal mixed in.  This is the same feeding schedule they have have been on for a few months.

I am also wondering if their reflux could be back.  Does it just come back?  They had it when they were little, but then stopped showing signs for it.

We also changed their humidifier to high, rather than low.  I don't think that could have done it, do you?  I am just rambling trying to think of all of the different possibilities.

What are different things that could be causing this?  Hmmm......

Re: So much vomit! (sorry, long)

  • My DD always throws up her evening bottle when she has a bad cold/virus/croup.  She did it tonight.  I've always assumed it's just related to the coughing, and it usually passes in a couple of days.  I also found that the humidifier makes her cough worse so I don't use one, but I think I'm in the minority with that.  It wouldn't hurt to call your pedi, but I would guess it's just the coughing that's causing the problem.  GL!  I hope they feel better soon.  It's no fun to change sheets in the middle of the night.  I can't imagine doing it for two!

  • I'm thinking they're eating too much. DD gets solids (about 3-4oz) at 6pm, then a 7oz bottle at 7:30pm - with 7 tsp of oatmeal for reflux. I think it's a lot to get solids, then a bottle right after, then another bottle a couple of hours later. But that's JMO...hope they are better soon!
