Remind me why I like my job...(teachers)

I feel so frustrated and overwhelmed right now. I feel like I have so much extra work to do and never enough time, preparing for standardized testing, working with crazy adults, annoying kids (7th/8th graders) I am having trouble remembering why I like this. I have this reoccuring thought; my life keeps getting in the way of my job... Please help!

Re: Remind me why I like my job...(teachers)

  • i'm not going to be much help. I was a teacher for 5 years and left teaching b/c there were no jobs where i moved... and i landed into the corporate world and LOVE IT and will never go back to teaching.

I thought I loved teaching- but after leaving it i realized how stressed it made me... i had knots in my stomach every minute of the day because of it - which i didn't realize until i was not teaching for a while- and then talked to teacher friends of mine about school and started to knot up again...

now i'm in pharma sales and make a ton more mone- much better benefits, and have very little stress compared to teaching.  The only thing I really miss is having my summers off - but i get to take my vacation days whenever i want now and not around the school schedule- so i'll deal with it :)

good luck --- it might be time for a change...

  • It's that time of the year. This is the worst time. If it doesn't get better in a month or two, consider a new job...teaching's not for everyone and best to know that and get out of the profession!

Here's what I like: today, some kid came into my class and started a sentence with "I was thinking about something you said last week over the weekend." Love.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I'm not going to be much help either. I teach 1st and hate my class this year. I've been teaching regular and special ed for 10 years and I'm about done. The money is crap, the kids get brattier every year and I just want to be at home. I should be working on report cards right now and I have no desire to. I feel the same way, so much to do and I can't get it done. I can't come in early or stay late anymore. I am going to look for teaching jobs at a community college so I can stay at home with Cora and  then work at night. There are also classes that you can teach online from home. Maybe you should give that a try. Good luck!
