Hate to bring it up......hemorrhoids

Anyone have hemorrhoids after giving  birth and if so did they eventually go away????  Mine aren't painful but they are there.  Not sure what to do or who to talk to about them?? I don't have a family dr but maybe I should find one.  I'm embarrass to fool around with DH in case he notices.  How gross and embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you doing anything for it?

You can try prep h cream and/or tucks pads (witch hazel).  During my pregnancy I got it really bad around 37 weeks (OB claimed it was from the pressure) and I was prescribed a cream that I would put on a tucks pad and leave there until I went to the restroom.  I kept refreshing throughout the day and it helped reduce it.  You could try that out for a day or two and see how it goes (the prep H on the tucks pad).

  • I have one too and have been debating to go to the dr or not. My mom gave me a great tip for when it flares up, vick's vapor rub. Works way better then Preperation H, why it does I don't know but it works!

  • If they won't go away with cream, I would have them removed.  I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.  :(
  • I had them and they are awful!!  Do not be embarrased, make an appt with your gyno or OB.  6 months is way too long to deal with those things!

I had them and they gave me a cream and tucks, they helped me none!  When I finally made an appt 3 months pp, cause I was horrified too, they gave me an Rx for a suppository cause they were internal.  I had to do those for a few days and have not had a problem since.

The suppositories suck so bad but not as bad as the pain from a hemi!  Make an appt asap!

  • I was told they never go completely away unless you have surgery. My midwife said they will get better, and then they will get worse, and then they will get better... but you are pretty much stuck with them. Sorry for the bad news. :(
  • After 9 months of pain, itchiness, bleeding with poop, etc I finally sucked it up and saw a GI doc this past Friday. Definitely the most embarrassing appointment of all time (I did have to have an exam), but at least now I know what the problem is and will begin treatment today. What I had thought was most likely hemorrhoids is actually an anal fissure- basically a small tear in the anus that won't heal without some sort of treatment. So, for the next month I have to apply a small amount of nitroglycerin gel to the area and that should hopefully clear things up.

If you are still having problems, I definitely suggest getting things checked out. I initially when to my OB for the problem but she then suggested seeing a specialist because she didn't find any hemorrhoids.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice!! Didn't think i was the only one but didn't know who else to talk to.  I will try some of the tips and see what works for me.  I had a feeling that this was something I might end up dealing with forever :((

    THanks again!

  • I have Ulcerative Colitis and got them before I was pregnant.  They hurt so bad, I went to an insta-care and they wanted to lance them.   OWWW!!  The creams helped at the beginning.  Did an Epsom salt bath (rinse off after), witch hazel, and bag balm were the things that helped in the end.  Even w/surgery they more than likely will come back.  Repeat offenders. ;)  GL!
  • Definitely try the cream/pads before going to the doctor.  If that doesn't work, you can do a sitz bath too.  If that still doesn't work then I would go to your doctor (OB is fine).  They'll most likely prescribe a hydrocortisone cream for it.

Also, TMI but do you know when you get them? Does it happen when you're pushing?

If so, then I would try to change your diet to include more fiber so that you don't strain.  That's the biggest cause of hemmies.  You can also drink a glass of prune juice or plum juice (I like PlumSmart Plum juice because it's sweet) a day to help if you think that's the cause.
