So we just got back from a wonderful week in Kauai. We flew on United non-stop from LA to Kauai--these are long flights. 5 1/2 hours going and close to 5 hours coming back. For starters, they don't let families with small children board before the masses. That was my first complaint. But then, we get on the flight and after checking all the bathrooms we have none with a changing table! Seriously? So we had to change her either on our laps or when it was poopy (and we had some of those) on the floor by the exit door where there was room to put her down. I'm going to write to them about this because it seems ridiculous that there's no changing table at all on the plane.

Re: United is not kid/family friendly!
It's a new policy. We flew three different flights with United and not one would let us pre board. It was an absolute nightmare. We had to dismantle the stroller at the door. Then we had to walk behind people who were finding their seats and storing their carry on while we were holding two toddlers, a car seat, and our carry on/diaper bags. Nightmare. I don't get it.
Then none of the bathrooms had changing tables. We had to change their diapers on our laps. I'm sure the people around us loved that because some of those diapers smelled.
We actually wrote United to tell them of our experience and they pretty much said "Sorry but that's our policy." So now we fly Southwest.
The not pre-boarding thing is odd -- we just flew 4 segments over the holidays on US Air and we were able to pre-board. However, on the 6+ hour segments each way, we also had no changing table, though we did have them on the shorter segments. They were just older planes, but they need to add changing tables, I fully agree!
Welcome home and I'm so glad you had a wonderful time!!!

No changing tables on either of our Southwest flights this weekend - luckily they were only an hour each and she slept the whole time.
And luckily there was a changing table at the rental car agency because she had a huge dirty diaper. I'm just glad she was in her big-butt cloth diaper because that mess was not going to be contained by a disposable.
Wow that's awful!
Can I just say that we got back last week from our trip to the US and Virgin Atlantic were far and away the best I've ever experienced with the baby-- they gave us extra seats in the bulkhead, constantly came round asking us if we needed food warming or anything for the baby, and all the bathrooms had changing tables. I was so impressed.
