NBR: My brother got punched and called a terrorist

So here's my insane story for the night.

My brother was leaving a bar with his friends and heading up the elevator in the parking garage.  A bunch of frat boys started giving them a hard time, and one asked if he was a terrorist.  My brother sarcastically answered "Ja, ich habe einen boom-boom ahn mein chesten".  The guy then spits on my brother.  My brother says, "What the F dude, I'm white!" and the guy then punches him, calling him a terrorist again.

My brother's friends pulled him into the elevator before it could go any further.  My brother is a 30 year old professional with a beard and dark hair.

I'm lobbying for him to go to the police--what the heck would this guy have done to someone who was really foreign?  

This level of ignorance amazes me.

WTF?!?!  These are the sorts of things that I just can't believe actually happen.  (I'm not doubting you-I just can't wrap my mind around it!)  What is wrong with people?

Could your brother find the guy or ID him?  If so, I absolutely think he should go to the cops.  If he doesn't know where the guy went or who he was it will just be a waste of the cops time unfortunately.  But how super craptastic!

This made me think of my favorite Simpson's quote: "To alcohol, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems." -Homer Simpson.

I think the fact that this whole thing most likely happened where all parties had too much to drink would make me leave it alone.

I also don't know what being White has to do with anything. Ever hear of John Walker Linde? Northern Ireland also had its share of terrorists, all of whom were as white as can be. Also, there have been German terrorists. The Baader Meinhof group was one of them.

Anywho, there is a lot of ignorance in the world. I doubt I'd trouble myself with some drunken frat guys. But then again I wouldn't have said what he said to them either. It's just going to cause trouble.

I think my brother said that because he assumed that the belligerent guy singled him out due to his beard, dark hair and olive skin--because in this guy's mind my brother resembled a terrorist.

Now your family understands how any person of middle eastern descent is treated in America on a daily basis. That's even sadder.

I thought it was kind of funny for a moment that your brother would speak German to them but then my DH just explained who the Baader Meinhof group were. Yikes.

Still a shame that frat kid went after him. Glad no one was seriously hurt.
