Flying with baby question

For those who have flown with your LO already, did the diaper bag count as your carry on? ?Or can you bring the diaper bag plus another carry on? ?I don't think it says anything on TSA's website. ?We are taking our first airplane trip on Tuesday to visit family and its time to start packing! ?

They never actually counted our bags, but if they had, I would have argued it was baby's carryon, not mine.

You can bring your diaper bag plus another carry on. Similar to if it were your purse.

You can bring a carry on and a personal item.  Usually it's a carry on luggage and a purse, but the diaper bag does count as one of those.  If you have purchased a seat for your LO they can also have a carry on and a personal item.

You can actually have a diaper bag, a purse, and a carry-on. Your DC is entitled to a carry-on regardless of whether or not you purchased a seat.

We went to Ireland earlier this month and I brought on a full sized wheeled carry on (completely full of baby food and diapers), Milo's diaper bag, and my purse.

And, in case you wanted to know, we also brought the carseat to the gate and asked to be moved to a row with an extra seat. Three out of four flights, they were able to. On the one flight that they couldn't, they gate-checked the car seat along with our stroller.

We've taken 10 flights and I just assumed that the diaper bag counts as my second carry on, and rather than carrying a regular purse I use a large tote. Honestly I can't imagine dragging along an extra bag, especially if I had a layover. I keep a few diapers and wipes and whatever else I need (toys, snacks) on the plane in the tote/big purse and keep that under my seat. I put the diaper bag in the overhead. If I need a separate purse I bring a small one and stick it in the big tote or in my checked luggage.
