Daycare decisions

My best friend's maternity leave is coming to an end, and she now has to make the choice of what she is going to do with her LO. She has narrowed down her options to either an in-home daycare or a child care facility. I offered to come on here to ask you ladies for your expert opinions, and she sounded very interested. Why did you decided (or decided against) in-home or an actual day care? What are the pros? What are the cons? TIA!!!

Re: Daycare decisions

  • I liked that there is more than 1 adult at a daycare center and there is also oversight from the main administration or whatever - I'm not really sure what to call it.

  • I like home daycare because DS is with kids older than him and loves being w/ them. Gives us the flexibility to pay for only the days that he attends, no security deposit, etc.

This..also, .i chose a franchise for even more accountability.

ditto this! I like knowing that the center employees will be held accountable. Plus they are more psycho about SIDs precautions than me(and I am pretty crazy).

  • She should choose the daycare she likes the best and feels most comfortable with. Whether it's an in-home or a center is secondary, IMO.  There are great ones and horrible ones in both categories.

  • For us, the choice of a center had more accountability with more people around.

The one we chose is family owned and operated.  So it still has that family feel to it.

I like that it has more than one person running it so if someone is sick, the whole place doesn't shut down because the sitter is sick.
