Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Will you push back LO's bedtime...

...when summer gets here?  I've been thinking about this because it stays lighter so much later, and we spend a lot of time outside at night during the summer grilling and such, and I'll feel bad putting her to bed so early when there's still so much daylight left.  She goes down between 6:30 and 7 now, but I'd love for her to stay up a little later with us and enjoy the summer months.

  • DD goes to bed at 7:30 now.  I wouldn't want her to go to bed much later than that, maybe 8:30 at the absolute latest.  If she has trouble going to sleep when it's light out later, we're going to put a blanket over her window before bed and then take it off early in the morning so she can wake up on her own.  Right now she wakes up at about 6, BF's and goes back to bed until about 8.

  • It'll depend on how he does. If he seems to not be getting tired at night so early, then we'll try staying up later and see how he does. If he still seems to want to go to bed at 6:30-7, we'll keep it there. I guess we'll let him take the lead. We have black out curtains too, because DS has a hard time sleeping during the day when it's light out. So, the darkness shouldn't be an issue for us.

DD's bedtime is 8 pm and she wakes up at 9 am. We've got a good thing going and she starts to get cranky at about 7 pm so I don't think we will be changing her bedtime.  We have blackout drapes in her room so the daylight does't matter in her room anyway.  I like the time DH and I have together during the evening.

Pretty much this exactly, except his bedtime is 8:30pm and he wakes at 9:30am.  I wouldn't want him waking up any later.

  • Get black out shades :):)  If 630-7 works, why change it??  And I don't mean that snarky at all!!!
  • Oops, just realized you'd like it to change.  We adjusted Avery's because she was waking up at the crack of dawn. So we gradually pushed it later by 15 min increments over a couple weeks. She used to never make it past 645-7ish. Now she goes down between 8-830!
